MOTM - Enda Stevens ?
« on February 28, 2015, 08:14:38 pm by Donnywolf »
I know this is very subjective but I have witnessed players win the motm just for scoring a goal

Around my area of the Ground we usually have a fairly accurate concensus of the "winner" although that is trying to second guess the people who pick

Today there must have been many contenders for MOTM and "we" predicted 17 Enda Stevens because having scored and done a goal line clearance (header) and several tremendous defensive interventions he did not win.

Luke was tremendous too but I would have loved Enda to win ,,, anyone else ?

I would have struggled to pick a player out for MOTM, but (no disrespect to his good performance at all, indeed no-one had a bad game) I wouldn't have picked Luke.

I AGREE

Luke had a great game apart from being caught in possession once with a suicidal pass played back to him (puts the Jamie v Luke debate to bed surely?)

It is just a really subjective thing to judge and I would have liked to see Enda win for no particular reason other than I would have picked him if I had been given the choice !

In truth 6 players had a shout but there was only one group / individual picking

A good shout with all of those. Tyson was a handful from first minute

I've voted for Furman today, for his non-stop effort in the 2nd half, culminating in winning the penalty at a time when we could easily have conceded an equaliser.

Lots of excellent performances today.  Butler and McCullough both played well and Stevens was excellent, not just his goal, but his all round defensive play.  He even had time to show us something he has not shown us before - his right foot!!  I do believe I saw a 25 yard shot on target with his right foot, when in all his previous games he has not so much as made a tackle with it!!

Furman for me today. Usual high energy from him but probably his most effective game for us.

I had Wabarra first half, some tremendous runs and excellent crosses. But the second half belonged to Furman, Mr nonstop.

Thought both full backs were good today, had commented that Enda looks good when he gets forward but often seems reluctant to. Five minutes later he scored! Thought Furman was brilliant, second half especially. My MOM though was Tyson. Lead the line superbly, did well for Endas goal, and showed Porter how to take a penalty.

LM was the best player today. Exceptional at times. There were a lot of 7 out of 10s.

Very rarely do either the full backs or defensive midfielder's get man of the match, it doesn't really matter if you can get over half of your players on form on the same day, you should get plenty of points over the season, i thought he deserved it today.

Thought he deserved it too, however there were some really good performances from quite a few players notably Furman and Tyson.
A good win against a half decent outfit at times, other times pretty poor. Their captain played well and was understandably pissed off with being subbed; after he went off it was virtually all over.
However a win is a win and the results virtually dropped in for us from our rivals giving us a bit of breathing space at Preston.

Furman was outstanding today, won the penalty that nobody else would've won. Got the ball back numerous times in the last 3rd.

Furman was everywhere, loved his performance today. He has really stepped up in a new role this season.

I struggled to decide between him and Stevens today. I wouldn't have given it to Luke but it was a good day for pretty much all of our players in terms of theor individual performances.

Tyson really wanted a goal too after being just too late on a couple of square passes in the six yard box, so I knew he was having that penalty and putting it away.

Agree with most of the shouts above.  I thought Wellens had one of his best games this season even without his sudden willingness to shoot on sight.  Mind, given what we saw yesterday I reckon he was just wanting to show us once and for all why he doesn't usually bother.

Don't want to go negative on an otherwise refreshingly positive thread but Wabara for me only gets the plaudits he does for his attacking contributions.  Defensively he's been a liability too many times recently.  Two of the goals at PV last week he had a major part in, yesterday he gave away a stupid penalty and so often is nowhere near his man when we're under the cosh.

I really held my breath there ... remembering his comment on Sky just before he took the Charity Penalty to win Bluebell Wood £62.50

Interviewer to NT " Are you under pressure - do you think you will score"

NT to Interviewer " Yes course .... I never miss ...(pause) ..... well from the Penalty Spot anyway !

Interviewer to me as NT walked to the spot " Well I really want the Charity to get their money BUT it would be funny if he missed after that comment wouldn't it ?"

He did not miss of course but yesterday the comment was straight into my head but I need not have worried - keeper guessed correctly but enough pace and power to make the net bulge

Well done NT !

I thought Luke was top drawer yesterday. Apart from that one mishap in the second half but he recovered well. Very cool with the ball at his feet and didn't miss a trick. Also, when Curtis hunted their right winger down and won the ball back for us I think that brought a bigger cheer than the goal in the first half.

I'm really surprised people are fawning over LM. I don't think we defended any better today with him in the side than the last few games, just Colchester didn't take their chances. Could've easily scored 2/3 and I doubt people would be describing his performance as 'exceptional' if that was the case. He was no better than the rest of the back four.

Was interesting the number of times he just smashed it aimlessly downfield - wasn't greeted with the groans we'd expect if, say, Jamie had done the same.
