That 5-0 defeat against us was a "wake up call."

Thing is, they actually heeded it!

You are right Dagenham, the football under Saunders was the worst I have seen since 1997/98. Absolutely awful at times.

You have to credit Saunders though. Being relegated from the Championship in the manner that we were, with the shambles of The Experiment and literally two or three contracted players left over, he built a squad of largely workmanlike players (Syers, McCombe, Jones, Quinn, Paynter etc) who ran through brick walls for him. I would go so far as to say that squad was at least a notch or two below the one we have now.

To turn that lot, after that relegation, into a team that was competitive throughout most of the season, and ended up as champions, is no mean achievement.

Exactly whether you liked his football or not that sums it up to a tee

Let's not forget as well that Saunders had never managed in the Football League before joining us. Massive leap from there to League One, let alone the Championship, where he started off with us.

Disagree, crap football and wins is only satisfying in the short term and usually doesn't work long term either.

There are elements of Saunders methods that we could use like the pressure and physical nature

Saunders did a fantastic job with limited resources & I found his winning football a lot more fun than what's been served up on the whole under both Flynn ( minus that fantastic last day ) & Dickov

At least u know what u were going to get from Deanos team, we don't know what we r going to get from Dickov from one game to the next and neither do the players imo!! Absolutely awful manager!

2012/13 team worse than this one, man for man?

You could have tied each leg of each of the 12/13 defence to the player at the sides of them and they'd still be better than the current lot. And they'd be less narrow an all.

Yes. Quinn, Jones, McCombe (before his back op) and Spurr. Not really a contest.

But some people think the manager can wave a magic wand over what we have. The worst thing in football is how reactive fans are. It's like kids loving their parents when they get a choccy bar from the shop and kicking them in the shins when they don't.... I really should ignore the forums right now
