Here is the second poll, with the dates ranging between 1948 and 1960:
http://blackbank.co.uk/which-legend-should-feature-on-our-legend-banner-1948-1960/

Who do you think ultimately defines this period and deserves the title of ‘Legend’?

Charlie Williams 1948-59

Peter Doherty 1948-53

Len Graham 1949-58

Kit Lawlor 1950-54

Brian Makepeace 1951-61

Harry Gregg 1952-57

Ron Walker 1952-61

Alick Jeffrey 1954-57

Peter Doherty.

Everything stemmed from him - including Alick.

I voted for Doherty, even though I think Alick should be on the banner.

Peter Doherty was my dad's favourite ever player. My dad lived in Lancashire back in the 50s but never missed an opportunity to see PD in action, so he saw Rovers a number of times when they were in the north-west. My dad was very taken with the young Alick Jeffrey as well.

My Dad always maintained that Aleck was the best player he'd ever seen but that Doherty was the best man - as well as being a very, very fine player too. Unconventional; imaginative; honest - some of the adjectives my Dad used over the years to describe PD.

I agree with you John. Voting for PD almost seems like sacrilege when Aleck is in the list. But I think he has to have the honour.

Bert Tindill was included in the earlier list, but I always associate him with the 50s teams.

I was thinking purely of players when I suggested who should be on the banner. If we're including managers then Doherty has to be on there, with Bremner, Penney and O'Driscoll on a smaller scale behind him.

I think Doherty is included in his playing capacity, BST.

Maybe Alick Jeffrey should be in the 1960s vote instead?

I suggested on Facebook that Alick (that's Alick with an I Bob!) should be included as a given and others chosen around him. Twice. This suggestion was deleted. Twice.

Pretty ironic given the moderator in the group used to constantly moan on here about heavy handed moderation!

As much as I think the King should be there, I agree that if just one then it should go to Peter Doherty.  However, would it not be possible to have a montage of all of them, I am sure we could get head and shoulders shots of them all, then you are not doing anyone disservice.

By the way7 BST, doherty began as a PLAYER manager before being just a manager so no problem there.

I've just read your post Nick so it hasn't been deleted.

I agree regards AJ and PD.

I remember going to Blackpool for a week's holiday as a young kid, late 70s, and one lunchtime my Dad started talking to this bloke in a cafe.  After they finished the conversation he said to me, "Do you know who than man is?", and I said No.  He said "That is Peter Doherty.  The best manager the Rovers ever had".
