Well that's a piss poor excuse I'm afraid. They should be playing every game like it is their last.

We've played the same amount of games as every other team.

You don't really think what Dickov says publicly is the same as what he says in the dressing room do you?

Dickov should be furious, in private, with the players tonight.

I have defended his selection, on several threads, based on the logic that the same 11 performed so well at Wigan.

The players, particularly going forward in the first half (Williams excepted), let the manager down big tome tonight.

But who do the fans on here sling the mud at?

Wellens had a poor first half, better 2nd.  Forrester and Copps were both poor.  Evina, quiet.  ATS good in defence but poor going forward.  McCullough and Middleton did OK.  Main and Chaplow improved things a little and Williams was too isolated.  But as a team we did not do enough.

PD made subs and we got better, just not enough to turn the game.

Tired legs after 4 matches? Eh? Better speak to Chris Froome; he's just cycled nearly 2,100 miles in about 3 weeks in the Tour de France.  :headbang:

Really don't want to get in the habit of jumping on everything that he says but tired legs?

Leave it out Paul.

I am sure tiredness was not an excuse in the DFP today?

"I thought one or two looked a little jaded but the majority of them are fine"

Dickov quote from the DFP website, now he does say 'one or two' but even that's one or two too many for professional footballers in August

I guess some of you do think what he says in public is the same as what he says in private then

Of course not, but if he's admitting 'one or two' in public, he's probably playing it down, so more likely to be more.

They have played 4 games in a week and a half, the players will be feeling it. There is a massive difference in top level sport between being 100% or 90% right.

Thats why the squad needs to be bigger so players can be rested/rotated. I wonder if by going for "quality rather than quantity" (understandable I guess) the result is a smaller squad which will struggle to cope with injuries. We haven't got the youngest squad either so injuries are more likely.

Hold on a minute. Let's not be getting soft hear. Millions of us have to get up in a morning and have to galvanise ourselves for a challenging day, and do it for 40 f*cking years or more.

Remember when managers in the past used to take players down the pit to see what hard work and shitty conditions look like. Trouble is, there's no bleeding pits left!

I don't think he's admitting anything, I don't think within the dressing room anything about being tired as an excuse would've happened

I thought the whole idea of the Portugal training camp was to ensure we were fitter than most at the start of the season? That's what P Diddly said anyway!!

They will be very fit. They could play twice a day for a week if needs be but performance level would deteriorate.

I didn't read that as an excuse though.

I expect PD to be angry at the players for letting him down, well most of them anyway.

From the DFP, the journo's words:

"Paul Dickov refused to blame fatigue after below-par Doncaster Rovers were held to a goalless draw at home to Southend United."

Note the "refused to blame fatigue" part.  Now, someone please remind me what the point of this thread is?
