If they are expecting that much extra traffic they should have made it dual carriageway the entire way!

Personally I can't see many new fans wanting to take advantage of the new easy access road by flying into Robin Hood for a game at this present moment.  :)

Can't see it being easy access during peak periods, this road will just replace the Cantley crawl

Not sure that's true, but even if it was when you factor in that it's only a tenner in a taxi and 10 minutes up the road rather than increased travelling time, fuel and parking costs I'd still rather fly from there than anywhere else if possible.

I'd rather fly from there when possible, at the moment it's not, they have priced themselves out of the market, it is cheaper to drive to East mids and pay parking

I've not been abroad for a while due to various reasons, but when I've been looking out of curiosity (this is at packages rather than just flights) it tends to be pretty much the same price as East Midlands, but sometimes the flight times are a bit poor. We are going to Majorca in June from Donny and it's fairly reasonable. I heard a guy talking about the Flybe flights and he said he had paid £400 less for his family to go to Malaga than it would have cost going from East Midlands.

I've also priced up going to New York from Donny via Dublin on Aer Lingus and it is loads cheaper than flying direct from Manchester on Virgin.

Anyway, this thread seems to be going a bit off topic. Bring on the new fans in the new houses!

We normally fly to Greece from East Mids or Manchester but this year it's cheaper from Donny without travel/fuel and car parking costs. I also fly to Dublin on aer fungus from Donny

Wherever it is then, Gatwick or Heathrow. Whichever one of those it is, increases the cost of getting there even further over Donny! Sorry, will have been thinking of the times I've been to Orlando from Manchester.

My experience of it, is that its always a little bit dearer than Manchester/east midlands whenever I've flown from there..However the shorter airport waiting, and the fact I can be home in half n hour compared with a 2hr motorway slog makes it more than worth it...

It was very close to going that way in 2010.

For the privilege of flying from the UK's worst airport. Horrible place.

We are saving a couple of hundred quid by flying from Liverpool to Zante rather than Donny, that includes fuel, overnight stay & parking. Do love flying from Robin Hood mind.

As long as it's not windy I don't mind it, bit of a pain to get to during peak traffic periods mind

It's not big enough for the number of passengers going through it.

If it brings more families in to the area for work and their kids go to school here then there's the opportunity for them to become Rovers fans.

Any inward investment is welcome and if Rovers benefit in the future then that's a bonus.

Have to agree with the comments above though about the single carriage way issue. Both the airport link road and Woodfield way, opportunity has been missed to make these important links dual carriageway from the outset. Just as the M18 link road had to be revamped, you suspect the same will happen to these within 5 to 10 years.

Widening Woodfield Way could prove tricky , they're building houses on both sides already.

Not a chance they could that's for sure.

Airports' never come close to shutting!!!! Peel own everything around it! Worthless without an international airport. They plead poverty at pay review time and to keep low business rates, but its very much at the forefront of peel Airports' plans. Will overtake Liverpool soon mark my words!!!!

Peel haven't had the best track records with airports. Sheffield and Durham being two examples.

Pleased to see DSA doing well now though

Ha don't count Sheffield it was only bought to quieten any opposition then to shut. We used to go over once a month to check all the engineering side of things then went over to remove the approach lts when it shut. Durham's doing ok and will survive.

Shouldn't this thread be moved to 'Off topic'?

Or re-named 'Donny Airport - good or bad?'
