Different class?
« on March 25, 2016, 06:55:40 pm by Bentley Bullet »
Comparing our current squad to the one that won the league one title 3 years ago, I wonder how many of the following would stake a place now......

1) Brown
2) Cotterill
3) Bennett
4) Jones
5) Paynter
6) Hume
7) Spurr
8) Husband
9) McCombe
10) Quinn

I reckon all of them! There is no comparison in the quality of this list of players compared to the squad we have now.

It would be very interesting to know how much this squad cost compared to the current one.

It does seem there has been drastic cost-cutting at the club. Off the field we may be better than ever but nobody gives a shit when we have the worst team since probably Steve Wignall was here.

Redundant statement really - they'd all walk in to the side, they were a title-winning squad and our current crop are relegation fodder.

That squad didnt cost much if i remember but what it did have was spirit and a never say die attitude. What we have now is a die as soon as we let 1 in attitude.

Was that due to the players though or the manager?

The statement might be redundant in respect of it's difficult to oppose, but the question regarding how much that squad cost compared to the current one, is far from redundant.

That squad didn't cost much in fees. But it did cost £7m in wages which is astronomical in this division.

We'll find out in 12 months or so when the accounts are published.

So in that case can it be said it's a fact that since our last successful manager left (Saunders), the funds available to Dickov and Ferguson have been reduced considerably?

Wasn't £7m the budget we went down with? So the title winning side was built on £3-4m if I remember rightly.

MM
No. The budget in the Championship in 13/14 was more or less the same as the one in L1 in 12/13.
