The great escape?
« on March 26, 2016, 04:39:48 pm by normal rules »
Can anyone see Rovers beating Blackpool on Mon.

If they get out of this position would it be their best ever turnaround?

If we beat Blackpool I think we'll scrap our way out. Lose and I think it's goodnight, Vienna. And Sheffield, Barnsley and Scunthorpe...

On current form, I don't see us getting another point between now and the end of the season. We are more likely to finish bottom of the league than outside the relegation zone.

It's a game of football so yes, anything is possible. However, I fear if he doesn't use the time before Monday to clear the air with certain players, then it could be a painful game to watch.

When relegated we have normally gone down by a few points in my time watching since 1958.
Our last relegation was a little different, sickeningly in the end.

I don't think it would be a particularly 'great' escape, though if it did happen the manager and his team would deserve some credit for managing to maintain their League One status.

For all the inefficiencies at present, however, there's still only a two-point gap to the teams outside the relegation zone.

If Colchester or Crewe managed to avoid relegation, that would be a great escape as they've been firmly stuck in the relegation zone for many months.
Riggo we are the worst team in the league at the mo  so it would be an Houdini act if we turned it round

Rigo, you must admit we are almost at the point of no return. The Final Countdown has already started, and Rovers are spiraling aimlessly to L2.

We will win the game against Blackpool 2-1, and confidence will build up from there, but only if the players realise they face a battle and are brave enough to face the challenge head on.

You keep making these bold predictions Sammy and then qualify them with a caveat about showing a certain kind of spirit (that hasn't been seen this year) for it to happen.  We've been saying they need to show some fight every game for the last dozen, what is the point of you keep making these meaningless predictions?

For once, I think we agree, slightly, on something.

A defeat to Blackpool won't lead to immediate relegation, but it's an important game. The players have failed to take opportunities to get points and make life easier for themselves over the past few games, which has meant the worries over relegation have deepened.

A defeat to Blackpool would leave them at least four points from safety. Not an insurmountable gap, but a gap nevertheless with pressure increasing even further.

It is a massive gap for a team that is unable to get one point in ten games, how many do we have  left?

Dunno about Great Escape, if we can somehow turnaround the shambolic set of individuals who put out and played in the fiasco on Good Friday into a coherent football team good enough to beat Blackpool tomorrow, it will be the greatest Easter resurrection since the first one!

Wilts, every other Lg 1 team wants to win more than our rabble, I think Blackpool will be up for the fight tomorrow and want a win with Oldham breathing down their necks and with games in hand too. I don't even see us beating Crewe. The finish to this season could be very embarrassing, the players have seemed to have given up, and the loanees haven't made a difference.

Just saying what i think they are capable of, and hoping for the best, does it annoy you?.

most of what has been said regarding DF was said last season regarding dickov, see what happens when he can build his own side. There is obviously something wrong within the club, but lets go back to the 96/97 season, saturday game against Wigan who were just starting there climb to the premiership.Relegation was looking a certainty for the Rovers and certain meetings had taken place at the Danum and Park Hotel to try to find out what the owner Richardson was going to do about it.Anyway back to the game it was as though the players had put their heads together and decided they didn't want to be part of a relegation team.they fought, battled and run the Wigan side ragged winning 2-0.this followed 3 wins and 1 draw in the next 4 games and they staved of relegation to the conference only for 1 season tho.The point is no matter what is happening in the background do these players want to be part of a relegation team.get their heads together and fight.

I remember that Wigan game well. It was on a Friday night though. Afterwards I drove through the night to Torquay for a work conference.

The things I used to do...

How many times have you said that in the last 3 months Sammy?
I guess if you say it often enough you're bound to get it right sooner or later. Hopefully! 😀

I do think one win might kick start things, but we're running out of games.
