The other club statement
« on May 09, 2016, 05:59:02 pm by wilts rover »
Anyone know what the 'formal complaint following the end of the match' is about? Is it the Burton fans on the pitch or something else?

Got to assume it's the steward openly kicking a Burton fan on national television.

With all the stewards/police there, the fans could've been stopped getting into the area between both barriers before the final whistle and could've prevented any encroachment onto the pitch. I'm surprised really there weren't any more incidents.

I'm actually really dissapointed in this, the fourth time this season I have seen or heard about incidents with our stewards when ones too many.
My concern with each one is that it's a culture and mindset issue that the club has failed to properly deal with - who is accepting this behaviour and why do they still think it's acceptable to act in this way?
At Blackpool I personally witnessed them stood eye balling somebody in the South and when a supporter questioned their behaviours they swooped in.
If you employ thugs you'll get thuggish behaviour - stewarding should be about safety and service first and foremost and ejection a last priority.

Again I think it's fair to add that a couple of stewards have been a pleasure to deal with in terms of Black Bank and as a result have received the respect they've deserved.

KID complains when tripped breaking the law.  He probably should just let it go...

I think the steward was demonstrating the professional foul that the afro haired Burton player did during the match 😀

He should but as a club they shouldn't. Why are the club accepting this kind of behaviour from stewards?

No doubt its a spur of the moment thing from the steward, however it shouldn't happen, which is then down to training

I saw a facebook post showing that kick, wasn't on a Rovers page, but I saw in the comments someone tag someone asking if it was them and said person then confirmed it was them, laughing about it.

I wonder if the club have been made aware of this, if the statement above does indeed refer to that kicking incident.

Again, does it matter?
We've got a club employee kicking a supporter. Whether a complaint was even made I'd expect the club would be investigating the matter.

Wes, the staring incident you mentioned also happened at Hillsbro a couple of years back when we won there.
Two of their stewards just stared at our lads and were clearly looking for an excuse to wade in.
When we scored, they did and ejected two lads who were just celebrating.

Playing devil's advocate, how many people does it take to make a pitch invasion that isn't punishable by law? It's a weird situation when you think about it; if you run on the pitch after a normal league match that doesn't mean anything, you could expect a banning order, or at least a proper telling off. When it's at the end of a promotion winning season, or after a big cup game, it's ok - as long as at least a few hundred do it.

Didn't that WBA fan get a banning order? Why do we never allow our own fans on with threats then allow an away team to do it. Its either double standards or a situation which got out of hand. In terms of training rather than picking on one steward who could have been over zealous if instructed to keep fans off the pitch, i suggest training on keeping ALL fans off the pitch or let our own on. They can't have it both ways. This is what causes incodents like this.....

Burton fans were practically on the pitch before the final whistle went. Again, double standards.

Can't blame a contingent of our fans for running on the pitch. Lot of mixed emotions, anger at some players, appreciation of other players, or just double standards because Burton ran on the pitch.

I really am bemused by the hate that our steward has been given over this matter. If you don't want to get hurt then don't charge onto the pitch. If I was the young lad I'd be more worried now that my name is known for being involved in a pitch invasion.

Would any of us, have liked it if we had been knocked over at stoke?, i didn't go on the pitch but some did. And i remember, quite a few got booed by our own fans, but we wouldn't have been happy to see one of our fans being legged over, if they were just celebrating!.
It's different if the fan is aggressive, then the steward has a job to do!. You always get warned not to go on the pitch, but they expect it to be ignored, when promotion has been won!

Burton deserved to celebrate, a big achievement. The problem is stewards are like us all, different personalities, different ways of handling things, like it has already been suggested, they should be trained to know how to react in certain situations!. I notice it's never somebody they're own size that gets knocked over!.

I would've quite liked it if one of the first people on the pitch at Stoke had been bundled over as a disincentive to others thinking about running on. That day was one of the best of my life but the pitch invasion was disappointing as it prevented the players from coming over to celebrate in front of the fans.

Its enshrined in the Green Guide that stewards are there for our safety, not to dish out arbitrary punishment and assault as they see fit.

This thread kind of backs up the point I made about us having pitch invasions.

We seem to be happy to let other teams do it yet frown at our own supporters for Doing it.
