If memory serves it's how we've operated for a long time. Main two followed by a couple more who could fill in to cover injuries (Hird, Lockwood, Quinn etc.)

The priority in defence won't be a CB it will be LB or RB to match Alcock when we switch to 442. But it looks very much like Fergie fancies 3 at the back.

Yep Sounds like Baudry flanked by Wright and Butler as a back 3. Wing backs are the next key positions in that set up.

Someone else up top and we're not far off.

Agreed dbr - tho I reckon wright'll be the central fella! Mattioni, grant and anderson (all unlikely I accept) and I'd be seriously impressed!

Personally I hope Fergie realises he got his fingers badly burnt with the 3-5-2. The system relies on getting high-quality wing-backs. We saw the sort of player you need when we had Mattioni, and getting him was a stroke of luck.

I'd argue that with McCullough, Rowe and Coppinger he has the basis of a really good midfield diamond. Assuming no-one goes out (that we want to keep) then I think we need a LB, GK and a couple of strikers.

It doesn't need to be though, we should have enough players who can properly play in each position. Minimum four centre backs for me. No, it might not be the priority now but we still need to sign another for that position, as well as a left back.

Unfortunately, I think that's it for CB signings and we'll move on to other areas of the team. Definately need a good LB/wing back to add to the defensive options.

Centre mid is still looking a bit thin and a mate for Rowe would be a nice to have. Preferably someone with a bit of pace and power to them.

After that, assuming we sign McSheffrey (and Williams stays), the big find could be another pacy striker - a season-long loanee might be the answer to that problem?

Back-up keeper still required and then we're about done. So 5 more to come in?

LB
Striker
Centre Mid
Number 10 mid/striker

Then there's always the loan market to bulk up the squad with Pugh,Mandeville and Longbottom as the youth element

Boudry will never ever be flanked bi Wright and Butler I can assure you of that. That would never work. Butler could never play left sided centre half, he could only play in the middle of the 3. The two wider centre halves have to be mobile and have pace.

I think SCWK called this one as a potential signing but was feeling under the weather so didn't share it with us.

Don't know anything about him. But again he's a good age, a good height for a centre back and has experience playing in the division. Encouraging that Huddersfield saw enough in him to offer a new deal but he's chosen us. Compensation fee already agreed outside tribunal.

Never heard of him, he sounds promising, we did need some height in there for that league. Are you still selling shoes in donny town centre jonathan james?, i bought some from your place one day, the sole dropped off the next day!.
