Jordan Wheatley

What happened to our interest in this lad. He'd surely be a decent investment if they rate him and with the short term loans going we could do with some depth.

I saw this article via Google.
Looks like he's gone to Brighton
Don't know the date of the article

8 month ago. So was declined by the player himself then we showed interest.

The Brighton thing is old hat. He turned down their offer.

He's been offered a new deal by Ilkeston but I don't know if he's accepted it yet.

He suffered damaged ankle ligaments last March but I'm not sure if he's fit yet.

He has refused to sign a new contract, so a fee would need working out, because of him being under twenty four. I don't think this one is over yet.

Signing for Mansfield

I watched Mansfield play in a friendly yesterday and he played the whole second half, did ok. His brother is with the Mansfield youth team.

It's a good move for him, shame we didn't get him.

If I'm not mistaken he's gone to Nuneaton town.

Yeah. Said he chose Nuneaton because he was guaranteed first team football unlike at Mansfield.

Looks like we've missed a star there. And he'd have only cost us £100k.

f**king useless Bramhall.

So he's turned down the opportunity to play for two Football League sides and elected to sign for a National League side.

You can't accuse the lad of over-confidence.

I can sense another Theo Streete here.

Mansfield where saying they signed him on Saturday. Surely you'd sign him and loan him out to Nuneaton for the season.

It smacks of the comfort zone option for him actually.  Strange.

Rather play first team footballeader then sit on a bench. If he does develop he's probably worth another look as I doubt Nuneaton is out of our price range.

Would rather play first team football for a part-time club than benefit from the greater coaching and training opportunities with a full time professional outfit? Smacks of lack of ambition to me.

If Mansfield didn't think him ready to play in the first team he could have gone on loan to someone like Nuneaton and continued to train full time with Mansfield. The only thing I could understand is if he wanted to stay in full time education, but he doesn't mention that as a reason.

Playing semi pro and working is usually better money than playing L2 on a shit contract.

True, but the lad is 18 and I doubt if he'll get a well paid job outside football. Also if you don't follow your dreams when you're 18, when do you?

In which case, why bother going for trials at Brighton and Mansfield?

It's about wanting to be a first team footballer in competitive football. Going to Brighton and even Mansfield he would probably play U21 and Development football. He's made his choice and young enough to get League football, using Nuneaton to progress his career with a manager and coach he knows.

In one hand we complain about overpaid 18 year olds in academy premiership football. This lad appears to want to learn his trade from the grass roots up.

At some time you have to prove that you can cut it in the professional ranks though.

But does that point need to be at the age of 18? I think with the rise of Jamie Vardy there's probably an increased perception that there's no need to rush things.

I agree nick but vardy is the exception. If you are headhunted at 18 with a full time professional contract offered and you do not take it I think you have been listening to people who do not have your best interests at heart
