The ongoing failure of the EFL
« on October 05, 2016, 04:03:41 pm by RoversAlias »
Hi all,

My latest blog post takes a look at the EFL Trophy, Rovers' role in it and the ongoing failure of Shaun Harvey and the governing bodies that so often seem to try and ruin the game we love at this level.

https://intotheemptynet.wordpress.com/2016/10/05/efl-trophy-the-ongoing-failure/

Please let me know your thoughts, be they related to Rovers' position in the tournament or the wider implications of the proposed reforms on the table.

As ever, my first thought is, would've made a good fanzine article.

Interestingly i had talksport on the car radio at lunchtime and they were doing a feature on the competition and they too commented on how poor a format it is and how the bigger clubs were not staying within the spirit of how it was meant to be.
They also highlighted the substituting of the Bradford keeper after a couple of minutes and ridiculed the rules for them feeling the need to do such a thing.

Ah sorry mate, it is on my to do list to get that article done that I said I would. I want to keep my blog ticking over and having not attended many games in the last few weeks didn't have anything related to our games to write about. If you've got any subject areas you think I could contribute articles for let me know, I'm always available on here and Twitter.

Hound - it's a big problem, the examples you've highlighted show that both "types" of teams in this competition are not taking it seriously. The big clubs as we've seen playing over-age first teamers, L1/2 teams abusing the subs system like Bradford and ourselves last night.

The subs thing has been abused for years.

Absolutely brilliant, hits the nail firmly on the head.
Sean Harvey seemed a tosser when he was at Bradford City and doesn't appear to have changed a bit.

Read somewhere about the numbers on the back of Leicester city's shirts that if you haded them all up it was bigger than the crowd at Grimsby

A lot of the fans at the bigger sides don't want to be in the tournament. One i saw for example thought it was a trophy for the bottom two divisions and should be left that way.
We are benefitting from the cup with returning players and young players getting experience. If you can turn a negative into some sort of positive then it's not too bad.

Not being to recent games is never an issue for fanzine content - most of our regular writers are exiles who only see Rovers a handful of times a season - so please don't let that put you off. You're writing about new topics on your blog more regularly than we have fanzines out, so you certainly don't need any suggestions from me about what to write about either.

Our contact details are on this link for yourself, and anyone else who ever fancies writing for us - as well as some suggestions of regular features we always welcome submissions for. The fanzine door (front cover?) is always open.

Oh I know, what I meant by that was that I usually cover recent matches on my blog but having not attended many lately I've had to think of different things to write about, and truthfully was sitting on an EFL Trophy piece since the Mansfield game. Anyway, I will be in touch soon as I've wanted to write for the Fanzine for some time.

Cheers.
