Loss of momentum because of what though? What was the difference in the lineups between Mansfield and Colchester, Blackpool
Genuinely don't know

He thought the job was done, allowed the players to celebrate prematurely before completing the job of winning the title.
Tinkered with the team, some strange substitutions, for example putting Longbottom on at the end of the Blackpool game when experience was called for.
Poor management.

Well there's one thing I know,
Since we won promotion they've not let up on the players at all, not let them let their hair down slack off with training.
Sheff united have done the opposite, since winning promotion they've been in party mode, not training as often going on team nights out,

They've won every game since, we've won 0.
Maybe we should've let them celebrate promotion more

Not sure I follow the criticism of Ferguson for allowing the players to celebrate promotion when it was confirmed. Do we think that's a unique thing?! Or do we think they poured so much Grey Goose down their necks they're still suffering the hangover now?!

Last time we won the promotion early (03/04) the players were out in town celebrating that night and Dave Penney was with them. That year we went on to win the title, on this occasion we messed it up. But every team that gets promoted celebrates getting promoted because it's an achievement worth celebrating.

Many of our fans ran onto the pitch in a spontaneous display of uncontrollable joy to celebrate getting promoted.

It's only now that we seem to think it's shit.

mmm, I didn't see many fans run on at Hartlepool to celebrate finishing third.

Hmm, most of the players were in town pissed after the Mansfield game.

This spontaneous display had been talked about for days if not longer.
We had fans hoping that we wouldn't clinch the title at Wycombe. I bet that they have changed their minds now.
I think that there was over confidence by some fan and players. 10% more composure and commitment and we'd probably have done it.

Guaranteeing third place had already been celebrated several weeks earlier. It's really disappointing that we didn't push on to win the title. Team selections, tactics and poor performances were all factors. But it's done now, and it shouldn't detract from celebrating the fact that we've bounced back at the first attempt, which isn't easy.

Amusingly I've seen references to the fact that our generous budget should have made promotion a given and anyone could've achieved it with our resources. Same people wanted rid of the Board for not providing enough funds before that. Now they have provided too many which has made our achievement underwhelming. There's just no pleasing some!

Come on, after Mansfield no one was celebrating guaranteeing third place.
The celebration was for achieving promotion with the probability of going on to secure the title.

Obviously all of us are happy to be going up but it is hard to deny that the title was ours for the taking and it has been seriously messed up.

If anyone was celebrating anything to do with the title after Mansfield then they've no grounds to criticise anyone for the complacency that followed! That celebration was for getting promoted. And we've been promoted.

Read what I wrote.
"The celebration was for achieving promotion with the PROBABILITY of going on to secure the title".

Agreed that the celebration was for being promoted.

Are you happy that we blew the opportunity to win the league?

Of course I'm not happy that we blew the title. It's really frustrating and it's been poor to watch over the last few games. But then when you see the scale of the reaction on here (Ferguson out etc) it puts things into perspective and I can't help but feel compelled to defend the fact that I'm delighted we won promotion. It's a great achievement to bounce back straight away.

Yes it is. But it's equally some achievement throwing away the position we were in.

Soon as we won promotion, foot has come off the gas and the players have been well and truly on holiday, absolute pisstake really. Had some good attendances at games since the Mansfield game, probably might discourage a few people off buying a season ticket next season. Needs to be some deadwood cleared though, ATS top of the list.
