Went last Friday, only open Fridays 4 o'clock for 3 hours but well worth a visit, £1.80 a pint and a good selection of ales.  Situated in Mexborough by the canal at back of Imperial club.  Kai is the Dutch lad who does everything and started by meeting his girlfriend whose family started the business when he knew nothing and now he seems to be head cook and bottlewasher  (one for Donnywolf perhaps)

Certainly IS right up my alley

Will give that a go and then amble to the best place going (Imperial Club - got to love it)

Better not blow my budget though - as could get carried away (literally) if its 1.80 a chuck

I am still recalling my shock when Beer went from 1/11 to 2 Shillings so I would only get 10 Pints for a Pound

...and later following Decimalisation when the price went to 12.5 p meaning only 8 Pints for a quid

£1.80 is worth the £3 return Rail fare from Thorne though - as that there Hitchcock is a nice drink - but was over £3 at The Draughtsman when I had it there

Then I could follow up with The Imperial Club and some Classical Bitter @ around £2.60 last time I was in

Remember when it was a penny dearer in the best room rather than the tap room?
I remember when decimalisation came in it went up a halfpenny a pint for months. It was 14/15p in no time.
It doesn't seem much but a near on 50% increase in price is hard to justify in a short space of time. Especially when it's part of your staple diet.😉🍻

The cheapest beer I have ever had was out in poznan for a England game in 1991 I think.

Back then it was the polish zlotty or $$$ would do then rven took £££ in some pubs.

One place had a billboard outside saying "£1 for 4 pints"

So I had to have a try.walk in via a front door .all it was was a square room with a 69 watt bulb hanging down in the middle ,no tables or chairs just standing in a white wash bare room.

There was about 15 man city lads in there who were out of their tress .

At back end of room a closed serving hatch.you knocked on the hatch and a polish ena sharpies would open it up take your payment close the hatch then re open it with 4 pints.

I took the pints took one sip and left the beers on the arf and fcuked off out .

I could not belive that the city fans were drinking the stuff as it tasted like shite .

Well I can out Ena him (sounds a bit like 4 Yorkshireman from Monty P)

In 69/70 and just afterwards I used to go on Bus every night Stainy to Thorne at 9d each way making return journey 1/6d (7.5p in today's money)

Sometimes had 6 pints at 2/- each (10p) 12/- (60p)

Chippy in Stainy always open for Fishcake 3d and a large Bag of Chips 1/-  So total dining out call it 7p

Total expended on a great night out which I started with a £1 Note 14/9d call if 15 shillings which in todays money = 75p for a superb night out.

Used to put the balance (25p) in a tin and do the same each night for 5 nights and so on the Saturday I could have a real blow out with my £1.25 !

1s-3p Bentleys Best Bitter at Clarrie Jordans Schoolboy Inn Norton great set of lads and great fun,
   Anyone stepping out of line soon pulled up,just a great time to be young,and the older men were as hard as nails,mostly ex service men or miners.Nobody took liberties just enjoyed the company and had a laugh.
   And the odd ex Rovers team mate of Clarrie and Wednesday players  calling in made it even more interesting.

Looks like it may be 3 Hours a night - just seen on Facebook on Twitter it was opening at 4 (presumable tonight)

Anyway I am off tomorrow so will find out.

Although a bit dearer - middle room in Castle, landlords granddaughter had taken a shine to us. Apparently she got all the torn notes. Gave us a pound (note) ripped it and gave change for a fiver. 50p a pint we were soon bladdered

My first pint was 14.5p. Phil Sharpe's benefit match at the Cricket Club. I could buy a Mars bar (a proper size too!) and a bag of crisps for 11d (4.5p) so getting change from the bob dinner money my dad gave me. The petrol my dad bought at Smith's on Bawtry Road used to cost 4/3 a gallon. That means petrol inflation of very nearly 2,500% since just before the first oil shock in 1973....

Don't think the pay I got for my first month in work has gone up 25 fold since... No. It hasn't. Just worked it out. Pay's increased by not quite 19 times.

Went last night and it is open as yet only on a Friday 4 till 7 - this will be extended they said as trading conditions "evolve"

They sell their current 4 Beers @ 1.80. They can be seen on their Website but dont include as yet a Chestnut Bitter

It is situated right by the Canal and has a very nice (bijou) seating area upstairs looking over the Canal and that has a few 8 seater benches

Great friendly people including Kai (who does everything) and I would go again . For me the Beer I like best is not in their range but as I combined it with a trip to The Imperial Club with their tremendous Classical Bitter I was well happy with the night out

Yes - glad someone was paying attention there !

Far from being a fare dodger I spent most of the night ranting about my free journey there ! What I did not know is that I would be treated to 2 freebies on the way home !

What's that new place like on platform3b on donny station.

Very good. They found by chance and luck that it was an old Buffet / Refreshment Room from the 30s and had some great original decor such as Tiles

They complemented that with dark wood and it looks a treat. Small but perfectly formed Getting rave reviews and well patronised - great reviews etc.

Downside - expensive (though not compared to Norway). Saw ite yesterday where 4 people had a meal and a "drink" and it came to £211. Meals nor drinks were not specified but I saw Prawn Curry and Chips or Rice at £16 on Bergen Market 2 years ago so I can well believe it
