Dubrovnik

Off to Dubrovnik for a week shortly. Any of you well travelled types give me any ideas what to do and see. I've scanned footy sites and there is no game within 200 miles while I'm there so it's going to be a rare football free week. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Cheers

I’ve been twice. First time was nearly 10 years ago and I had a great time - excellent food and drink, reasonably priced, couple of good boat trips to local islands. It’s a beautiful walled city, but I went again 2 years ago at the height of summer and it was way too busy - I think the success of Game of Thrones and Croatia becoming a bit more mainstream have overexposed it slightly. Still had a good time but was only there for a day and didn’t feel like I was missing out by leaving. A walk around the city walls and exploring the back allies is a must.

Think it’s probably early enough for you to miss most of the crowds at this time (although there may be some with Easter) but it is a really small place and a week may be too long. Have you already booked accommodation? If you are able to spend some time in Hvar (an island off Crotia’s coast) or particularly Split and a day trip to Krka Falls I would recommend that, although it would probably take half a day’s travel to get to either.

Dubrovnik is a stop off for cruise ships nowadays. It gets absolutely stuffed with people most days.

Now I feel old , I went there prior to the break-up and extensive destruction to the city when it was Yugoslavia. I loved it and have been told it has Bern restored to it's former and extensive glory- lucky fella have a great time and be careful of that plum brandy ( slivovic ?) .

Chill in the day and visit walled city in the evening after cruise ships have gone
Beautiful place and friendly people
If you brave it in the day be prepared for a massive scrum of obnoxious Americans

Why are they like that , almost everywhere I've come across large groups of Yanks and for that matter Germans they seem to take over  I wonder if they see us in the same light ?
