Cristiano Ronaldo......to Juventus
« on July 10, 2018, 07:22:44 pm by Wiltshire Exile »
I see that Ronaldo has signed for Juventus. He’s been quoted as
“The time has come to open a new stage in my life, that's why I asked the club to accept transferring me.”

Oh, for crying out loud! Don’t treat us football fans as morons. You moved for one reason, and one reason only: one final payout. Nothing wrong in that; why not be honest and just admit it, instead of making cringeworthy comments like “to open a new stage in my life.”

Don't agree. I would imagine Ronaldo has long since passed the point where money motivates him. He was a massive success in England and now Spain so I would think it more likely he does want a new challenge in the third of the 'big leagues'. I think records motivate him more than anything so a 6th Champions League title with a 3rd different club could be the key.
If he was really after the money, he would be on his way to China.

He definitely won’t be moving to Juve for money.

My thoughts are Italian football is a lot slower so he will still excel as he starts to dip in the coming years. A clever move.

He’s won everything in England and Spain. If he wins the lot in Italy it will secure his legacy.

Yeah he's in danger of being labelled a fraud as it stands.

All the money he has, and has made and will keep making, why on earth would a transfer now be about money? Real weren't paying him pittance. He's moving for a fresh start, a new challenge and to take over a new league.

They've probably just guaranteed the Serie A title next season as well.

You mean like the previous 7 seasons?
Italian football is like Scottish football with sun.

Juventus are the only club over there that could realistically afford him, given the way that income streams and stadium ownership operate in Italy.

Yep, without Ronaldo they were always a long shot!  ;)

Juve have just fallen short in the champions league recently. They must think Ronnie could get them over the line.

Imagine if Buffon, having joined PSG after all those years without winning the UCL at Juve, gets beat by Ronaldo and Juventus lift the trophy this coming season.

It’s always baffled me on this forum why people feel the need to tell us they don’t give a flying f**k. The thread title is clear enough, why open it then and comment?

Really odd behaviour.

I get it..

My comment was more about really not caring what Ronaldo does - which is a fair point to make - rather than not caring about particular thread posts..

It goes to show one thing, the commercial side of the game at the top level must be absolutely massive..On the face of it 100million plus huge wages  for a 33 year old player who may have already peaked will have no resale value at the end of his contract sounds absolutely bananas on the face of it.

Real Madrid have arguably had Ronaldo's best years, something like 9 years of consistent brilliance and a huge contribution to their successes over that time. Yes, he will have cost them a fortune in wages but they've probably recouped that simply by having him in the team.

And then at 33 years old, they get back what they paid for him plus a little profit.

That's good business.

Juve haven't signed him to make money, they're doing it to have a better crack at the Champions League. I'm sure they'll make something back with commercial revenue but that will be a bonus really. You're right that the money is crazy but the game is awash with it and they can easily afford it.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Ronaldo takes such good care of himself that his body is more like a 23 year old's so he could potentially keep operating at the level he's at for 3-4 years. If his presence wins them the Champions League then no doubt Juve will consider it money well spent.
