This must become Rovers anthem
« on February 13, 2019, 11:25:12 pm by South East Rover »
Short easy to remember
catchy & almost everyone knows it

I've been a wild rover for many a year
And the football we play we play without fear

And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never no more
Will you beat the wild Rovers
No, never no more

And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never no more
Will you beat the wild Rovers
No, never no more

For me, when we used to do this as a yoof, you'd sing the first verse then go..

So it's Donny Rovers..
Clap, clap, clap, clap,
Donny Rovers FC!
We're by far the greatest team.
The world has ever seen!

I think a anthem to become a forever anthem it has to keep as close to the original song as possible,
for instance I'm forever blowing bubbles, Swing-low sweet chariot,Ferry cross the mersey. etc

Dont they only play the start of Wild Rover now with no lyrics when the players come out, as the announcer starts talking over it

Please God no. Let's not go down the road of borderline forced, choreographed chanting they have in American sports. It has to be natural and it has to come along naturally. Before the game, certain songs maybe - like when they played Spirit in the Sky before Stoke to prompt a certain song. During the game? let's not.

I am with you RedJ it should be natural not forced I think

During the game sounds ok but presumably that would have to be at someones discretion which maybe a difficult interpretation

Im up for anything and I think utilising the Wild Rover song before each Game is ideal and I would think it lends itself to Donnybazrovers suggestion perectly. If done every game it would be organic and grow and cross the generations

Give it a go Sunday - you never know how far it might grow in the Matcjes to come ! South Stand South Stand give us a song

Definitely don’t put the words up on the screen. As people have said it needs to build naturally rather than be forced. I’m so excited about Sunday now and we have quite a few changes that are easy to pick up and get involved with

We’ve got McCann....
Red Army, Red army etc....
Louder, Na NA Na Na Na Na, louder....
We don’t care about Rotherham....
Bounce around the ground, bounce around the ground....

These are all easy for people to join in and get a good atmosphere going through the stand

Most things that mayappear natural, ain't. They need practice and planning.  What about a page in the programme with the chosen words in print (clean ones only of course) particularly Wild Rover.

Blades have their spot in the build up just before kick off with Greasey Chip Butty, as do many other clubs with their anthems.

Going back to Zigger, Zagger, someone asked what's the full version?

Not the abbreviated one they do now which tails off but this..

(led by a gob almighty!)

Zigger, zagger, zigger, zagger
Doncaster!
Repreat once
Gob: Gimme n R
All: R
Gob: Gimme n O
All: O
Etc. Really chanting the letters!

Gob: And what have you got?

All; You've got the best team in the land,
You've got the best team in the land,
You've got the best team in the land.
You've got the best team in the land!!

ROVERS!!!

SER, the Liverpool anthem is “you’ll never walk alone” not “ferry cross the Mersey”.

How about;

Mrs Moles sausage rolls are the best,
Mrs Moles sausage rolls are the best,
She takes the milk from her breast,
And the Milkman does the rest!

It’s unique and would sound good for the TV.

From The Belle Vue Days

Wild Rover with DRFC lyrics

If you know the Wild Rover tune

I went down to Belle Vue when I was a boy
To see Donny Rovers and oh what a joy
Now I'm a grown man I've got me a wife
But the Rovers of Donny I'll love all me life

And its Don - ny Rovers
Don-cas-ter Rovers FC
Play in hoops of deepest r-ed
Like the blood that flows in me

We went to the Keepmoat, we had to move on
There's no going back 'cos old Belle vue has gone
The wife and the kids they all join in the fight
To cheer on the boys in the red and the white

And its Don - ny Rovers
Don-cas-ter Rovers FC
Play in hoops of deepest r-ed
Like the blood that flows in me

Thanks to John Ryan their name will live on
For our sons and daughters when we are long gone
But the thing that will last for the whole world to see
Is the fame and the glory of DRFC

And its Don - ny Rovers
Don-cas-ter Rovers FC
Play in hoops of deepest r-ed
Like the blood that flows in me

And its Don - ny Rovers
Don-cas-ter Rovers FC
'By far the greatest team'
'Yorkshire will ever see'

Cheer leaders? Agree with DBR, the newer shortened version is over before it's started, rubbish. The longer version is far better.

Aye. But that int during the game. I've no problem with certain songs being played before the game, but it becomes a bit too plastic and sterile if they start telling us what to sing and when.
