Happy with that.

Solid point against a good Chalrton team. First 15 minutes I was fearing the worst as we were chasing shadows and they knocked it round well. Only some b*llocks on the line defending kept us level but then we grew into it and caused them serious problems.

All in all, point a fair result.

However, for the love of Christ, why do we not have a man on half way defending our corners? It'd commit 2 of theirs and give us an outlet when clearing the ball.

Nope a point was n’t a fair result, we were robbed by a bent linesman

It was a fair result in terms of the performances of both teams.

They were excellent at the start of the game and it looked like it would be a long afternoon, but we really dug in and worked our way back into the game.

2nd half was very end to end and I think a score draw reflects the game pretty well. It would’ve been nice to have nicked it at the end but annoyingly we’ve ended up on the wrong side of a poor bit of officiating.

Loads of positives to take from it. There will still be twists and turns I’m sure, but we’ve had a big test today and I think overall we’ve done pretty well.

If everybody had been defending in our box at Brentford we would never have got a goal seconds later.
One up front pulls two of theirs out surely.

Whilst true Idler, Billy Paynter was sat on the touchline near the dugout because he thought the game was over with Brentford about to score the winner. Wasn't a tactical move.

I wasn't there that day, but was he really? That's astonishingly unprofessional - the game was still on, he should have defended the corner as he would have done normally rather than having down time. Obviously it worked out for the best for us but still, it's not over til it's over and I'm surprised that Flynn didn't send him back out onto the pitch.

It wasn't a corner, Brentford had a penalty and it was practically the last kick of the game, or thought to be.

I'm very glad he chose to sit where he did.

But yes he said that's why he was there in the aftermath of the game.

Don’t you know that it was a penalty, not a corner.
I thought that every Rovers fan would have known what was happening.

Sorry, mistyped, like every other Rovers fan that moment is etched into my memory. Whether it's a penalty or a corner though, I'm amazed that it was deemed acceptable to just go and sit at the side of the pitch.

Defending a corner though is a totally different scenario to defending a penalty

Definition of bent: Some one who is corrupt, takes bribes, or abuses the privileges and powers of their position.

Inept, probably, but bent, well that’s a joke and slanderous.

It really pisses me off, all teams seem to do the same. It must be in the latest f.a .coaching manual or something but if it is it needs binning..
If you leave one player on half way line( probably the smallest/ quickest one who’ d be least effective defending, then the opposition will leave at least 2 defenders back marking him. Rocket science???

Agree that we need to leave a man up. Invites pressure back on to you.
out of interest, if we left 4 men on the half way line, they would leave 4 or maybe 5.  So it would be a much less congested penno box where we would have potentially a 3 man advantage.  Has this ever been done before?

Yep, can remember a few managers doing it. One that sticks in the memory is Paul Buckle when he was at Torquay. He got them to the L2 play off final one year playing a front four and leaving them all up when defending set plays.

First few times bring everyone back then start leaving one up then another then another.

Makes me so mad we have the pace of Blair and Wilks and hardly use it to defend corners

Alfie May would be the ideal choice when playing. Not too much loss of height defensively and a tricky player to keep tabs on.

You generally want pacy players forward though and Alfie May isn't.

We left three up at home against Fleetwood. That worked out well didn't it.

Los to Stevenage in the final.

Not advocating it myself, just answering Adam's question.
