Its impossible to decide if the ref is right or wrong!

Even when we have a game shown on IF because there is normally only one camera there is no way you can tell if a decision is right or wrong because of the lack of detail.

Alick, are you saying it is impossible to roll whether JM’s shot was deflected or who it was deflected off?

From my position in the stadium I can tell you for certain that it was deflected and having watched the highlights I am sure it was off Rowe.

I have tried quite a few times to stop the highlights but can't do it sufficiently to say one way or the other. Clearly May is not the one concerned and it must be Rowe. From my viewing angle Rowe may well be offside but that is just a guess.

Hound I have been called a few things in my time but never slick

Ha, slick !!
I have amended my post mate, predictive text got me again.

The image in my head tells me it was a deflection off Rowe ( I didnt know it was Rowe at the time, just that it hit a Rovers player).
I can remember seeing May in front of the goal but he definitely didn’t touch the ball.

The goal should have counted.
Shocking decision by the linesman,

I have looked at it again and I think Rowe did touch the Marquis shot. Rowe to get to the ball rolls the last defender which may have put him just offside, the assistant would have had a good view, there again its just a guess. I would not accuse the officials of cheating because it seems to me to be a very close decision.

What complicates it for me is did Rowe go in to the offside position after Marquis shot? if he did then that was a good goal.

Alick, The is a picture on another thread which clearly shows that Rowe is onside as JM takes the shot.
There is a defender close to May who played Rowe onside.

Also, as has been said, after the ball hits the net Rowe wheels away as if he is claiming the goal himself.

When Marquis shoots those #16 (next to May) is nearer to the goal than Rowe. Alfie’s the last man but not in play. It’s a good goal.

I have now been able to stop the play on the extended highlights when Marquis shot.

Rowe was being held by the defender No23, a foul, but it happens.

Charlton's other defender, No14, puts Rowe on side by being positioned on the 6yd line. It clearly shows Rowe approaching the line and therefore not offside.

Decision..................Good goal and should have stood.

Looking at it again, it was bloody slack by May even giving the linesman a decision to make. He switched off and just jogged into a position a yard offside. Silly play.

Match officials make mistakes, it does not mean they are crooked or have been bribed, they just made a mistake. Just like Alfie May made a mistake by putting himself in an offside position. The difference is people never forgive referees.

Not really silly BST.
No worse than JM getting in front of Wilks as he scored our equaliser.
I was always told to run towards the goal if someone is having a shot, to give you an advantage if the ball comes back off a post, defender or keeper.

Very good point Hound. I hadn't noticed that.

Our first goal clearly shouldn't have stood. Marquis was a yard offside and he had to jump over the ball to avoid it, so he was clearly interfering with the keeper's view.

Swings and roundabouts, eh?

Agreed by the way. On re-watching, I was harsh on May. He ran through the line as Whiteman first shit. Originally, I thought he hadn't come back inside from there, but he did. He then ran through the line again, anticipating an early effort  from Marquis, but Marquis took one more pace before shooting so May was in an offside position when the ball was released. It was a split-second mis-timing, not absent mindedly staying offside for seconds as I originally thought.

Withdrawn.
