I saw this on the news BST.

Whoever it was that was complaining about it (I didn’t get their name) forgot to mention how good it would be if facial recognition picked out a potential terrorist going into the shopping centre with a rucksack on his back full of explosives or maybe an assault weapon in it, giving police a head start on arresting him (or her).

I am in the camp of not caring whether they check me out as I have nothing to hide.

How do you identify a "potential" terrorist?

Someone that the police see as a person of interest.
Someone that hasn’t yet actually committed a crime but has the potential to do so based on intelligence.

And if he goes out shopping? What do you do then?

Forewarned is forearmed.

Why would the authorities bother to track suspected terrorists anyway then.

But let’s not bother arguing about it eh.

Most threads end up along those lines.

Well this one started off as a light-hearted post. If you didn't want to turn it into a politicised one, you made a strange choice of response.

Why did I turn it into a politicised thread.

My response was simply to say that I am happy for the authorities to check me out as I have nothing to hide.

A bit like when I drive past a police car that has an ANPR system and it doesn’t pick out my car as being untaxed or stolen.

Probably the same as it does with a hoodie.

But a hoodie still allows an element of recognition
Please do not interpret this as racist it is certainly not intended as such, but burkas were worn by terrorists fleeing atrocities.
Not sure why women wearing these are allowed to dispense fuel but motorcyclists have to remove helmets

I think you're looking at this the wrong way round. A burqa may be used to cover the face for nefarious reasons, but that's very much the minority. When a hoodie is pulled down over the face it's because they don't want their face to be seen. Yet all that gets talked about is banning the burqa and not the hoodie. I've always believed that if the burqa - and solely the burqa - was banned that the women concerned should then go round wearing those caricature masks of the Queen instead, just to show how ridiculous that law would be.

Well there was me musing on the embarrassment of being seen in Meadowhall and it's all gone a bit geo-politics.
