A bit unfair on those of us who don't expect to be spending loads of money.
By comparison, we don't flinch at spending £2 on a bag chips when in 1994 it would have cost 50p.

However, 80m for Maguire and 40m for Iwobi does leave me cold.
Bag of chips with bits on threpence (that's about 1.1/2p for our younger audience) soaked in vinegar and tore the corner off the chip bag to drink it when I were a lad

This post was absolutely loaded with irony, !!
Just the figure of 30 million didn’t even make any of you flinch, ..even considered to be “ just pocket change” ..
This is why football is failing so many fans nowadays, ...you have become so conditioned to these ridiculous values for mediocrity,

And the point that 30 million would go a long way to saving lower league clubs, got lost too, ....
Never mind being attributed to a bookies failure...

You lot are the reason that football is a cesspit, you condone these crazy spending sprees, and actually rationalise them

No wonder so many on here want our club to be going over the high bar, ....they clearly have no sense of value, ..........

you are a bit wrong there mate I don't think anyone is saying £30 mill is nothing, we all know what it would do for league 1 and 2 clubs, we are just saying on comparison to what other prem clubs spend it is very low end, I don't think anyone is that daft to think £30 Mill is nothing

I'll be too busy wanting us to do well rather than waste time hoping that a local club fail.
I personally hope that they can stay up.

Good luck to them. Helped us out when we didn't have a pot to piss in if i remember right. Did they not give us kits or balls or nets just after the westferry take over. I generally wish all teams from yorkshire well, except the wednesday, but united especially.

I'm not sure I understand the point of this thread from the OP perspective to be honest.

But, I do hope Sheff Utd do well this season. However I think they've spent a lot of money on a load of unproven players so will find it tough to stay up.

My mate was saying they've spent £5m on bringing Bramall Lane up to Premier League standard. Without any major building work, that's mind boggling too!

They’ve just gone through that on football focus.

They had to have a new media lounge, new press box, they only had one interview room and they now have to have five, they have also had to double to lux levels on the flood lights for media and VAR requirements.

£5m sounds a lot but again, it’s a drop in the ocean when your talking about the money in the premier league

Transfer fees don’t bother me, barring the fat slice taken by agents it’s a way of redistributing the money. It’s the inflated wages which cripple teams. But then I don’t think anyone in any profession should or needs to be pocketing over 100k a year

Why? Because Sheff Utd spent a decent amount of money on players this summer? I'm afraid I still don't understand to be honest.

With the amount of ex Rovers players there; Billy, Stevens, Lundstram - if I had a second team they’d probably be it - I hope they stay up, it’s good for the area

and obviously getting "championship standard "players on loan from them  so obvious i shouldn't have to point it out

Point is Nudga, if chip shop inflation had followed football inflation since the 1990s, your bag of chips would now set you back twenty quid.

Back in the 90s, the going rate for a decent England international centre half like Gary Pallister was £2m. So there's been 40-fold inflation from him to Maguire.
