Nobody gave us a second thought when we were getting hammered back then - there was no talk of player fatigue or burn out - we completed all of our fixtures playing mainly with a team of kids & Sunday League footballers - yes we got hammered every game & it was an embarrassment to the hardy few including myself who never missed a game back then. But we played all 46 games & it was a case of needs must football. Now quite frankly it’s embarrassing to sight player fatigue after less than 300 minutes football this season for Bolton - and they can’t be that bad they held Coventry to a draw which was a creditable performance - the football League are pathetic and won’t hand out a proper sanction to Bolton -

I do sympathise with the supporters but if it takes getting beat by 6 or 7 every week & relegation, then so be it -

If you go back through their timeline on Twitter, they’re all singing and dancing after the Coventry game. As soon as they have a hard time in Birkenhead they throw their teddy’s out the pram.

Surely the young players at Bolton aren’t so snowflake that they are physically and mentally exhausted after 3 games - I could understand it at Christmas when their little legs might hurt a bit 3 games a week & all that but ffs we’re still in August.
Good job our youngsters in 1940 didn’t chuck the towel in facing the Nazis in the Battle of Britain

Let’s be honest it has nothing to do with player fatigue that is merely a smokescreen

Yes we had varying degrees of sympathy/lack of, from many quarters - and the Cardiff away mauling epitomised the disaster of a season. But as you say we did turn out a team (loosely termed) week in week out! Thank goodness for Peterborough away!!

Has no-one mentioned to the Bolton Administrator that we have a 38year old playing 3 games a week? I’ll bet said gentleman gets a bit sore now and again, but he keeps turning up for more!

There's the rub. If Bolton had won 1-0 on Saturday the game would be going ahead. It's the obvious cynicism of it that gets me.

At least Mark Weaver ensured we fulfilled our fixtures.

I hope that didn’t mean to come across as it sounds. Those people almost destroyed our club.

Getting back to the main point, whilst I have some empathy for the fans of these clubs, let’s not forget that we were in that situation due to one man and his spite; we didn’t overspend to reach the next level or gamble on the never never. So very different.

It does put in to context how lucky we are to have stable and sensible ownership though.

It also shows just how inept the football authorities are still.

His pre game team talk about us being an embarrassment was one of my favourites, up their with Warnock.

Was karma that we put 8 past them our first season back in the league, I felt (admittedly over 2 games).
