Toney at the end of the game
« on September 22, 2019, 11:35:17 pm by Reesielad »
I’ve just watched the highlights of the game back and just before the final whistle I needed to go to the toilet but I noticed Toney having a barney with Gomes. Anyone any idea what had happened or was it just handbags?

Also refused to shake hands with Gomes at the end.

Never noticed to be honest - I know Gomes was rightly upset about not getting a pen and being booked. Wonder if the fact Toney never got booked for similar was a factor

It surely cannot be about the alleged dive as Toney is a spectacularly good cheat. Anyone remember his desperate collapse to the floor in last season's home game? Laughably overlooked by their local press as they looked to take the moral high ground over sporting behaviour as a way of helping themselves to come to terms with a crushing defeat.

Matched this season by the scream of pain from Maddison before anyone got near him

That screaming by players when they are tackled, or slightly kicked, is becoming more prevalent in the game.
It began a few years back when players were trying to get opponents booked or sent off and is getting worse.
It never happened previously.

To be honest this isn’t something I have witnessed very often at our games, which is why it stood out like a dog with two dicks on Saturday..

It has happened at our games IDM.
As you say, not particularly often but it is happening more and more.
Listen out for it.

Yes with a scream like that you’d expect him to have suffered a season ending injury, instead he jumped up in seconds and took the free kick, not even a hint of a limp

How about a new rule - anyone screaming with pain has to be substituted immediately for their own health and safety  ;)

Or better still, have them play in a competitive Rugby game. No ‘girlie’ screams in either of those two codes!

Exactly, Colin C., I’ve been saying this for years. Players, managers and coaches in the 2 rugby codes are a different breed to their opposite numbers in football. They have respect for the opposition, the match officials, fans and, more importantly, they have a great respect for the game of rugby itself. How often do you see rugby players roll over in ‘agony’ in the hope of gaining an advantage or to get an opposing players sent off. Players of the same side would berate them, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they were suspended for the next game(s).

Gawd,  there are times when this sport, which I have followed since 1952 as a player, referee and Rovers’ supporter, makes me want to throw up..............ok, maybe a bit over the top, but you know what I mean, eh?

What really gets me, graingrover, is the sheer depth of the cheating that goes on this game of ours. For example, players dropping to the ground holding their face when all what’s happened is that they’ve caught an arm in the chest; managers and coaches shouting blue murder and demanding the opposition kicks the ball when one of players is lying ‘injured’ on the ground, and then when it’s the other way round urging their team to play on. Hypocrisy or what? It’s win at all costs and they really do take fans for imbeciles.

I quite like Rugby but it still has it's flaws.

I can't recall the players/teams but here's a couple of examples of foul play from Rugby which rank higher than anything in Football, of recent memory.

The lad who was on top of the other fella and literally leathered him twice as he was unconscious.

The kid who bit into a blood capsule as the physio came on to gain an advantage.

All well & good calling the ref 'Sir' When they're pulling stunts like that.

Two examples from how many games?
They are always retrospectively punished as well if seen.

Usually only used to be heard in such as Tennis and meant REAL pain. Was it Rusedski that time - horrible REAL howl

Now it has become more common and Maddisons attempt to draw something more than a Free Kick was embarrassing - and they should make him watch it as many times as it takes to make him stop and be "a man"  not a player trying to get a fellow professional Carded

So much for the Respect handshake before each game

I was fairly near that tackle. As the defender came in he put his left foot behind his right with his feet close together. There was plenty of time to either move and get a throw in or set himself for a tackle. The top of his body then moved first when tackled, not his legs which were the point of contact. I couldn't believe that the officials fell for it.

All it needed was, as he looks up feeling dizzy having completed a full range of roly polys he notices that the sun that has been blinding the East Stand is suddenly gone. In its place casting a shadow is Darren Moore who looks down at him in disdain glares at him and shakes his head.
