David Cotterill

Looks like he’s in some bother and has releasesed a statement, after the press told him they will be releasing the story soon.

The suggestion on twitter seems to be fraud against fellow players. If true, I wonder if anyone from DRFC was caught up in it?

Whatever his issues I find it totally unacceptable that the press can have this power over people. I thought that we had seen the last of this sort of reporting yet only very recently we have seen issue like this, the story surrounding Gavin Thomas fight with Aids, that he was trying to keep private and the recent issues surrounding Harry & William of the royal family and the press tapping into/intercepting private voicemail messages.

When are the government going to step in and make this sort of press behaviour illegal and therefore unacceptable and start clamping down hard on people who dont toe the line?

Outrageous and totally unacceptable.

Indeed.  The press seem to be less about news reporting and more about 'sensationalism' as a means to sell their wares!

The press publish it because it sells. They sell grubby shite to grubby little shites who like reading about the grubby shite in people's lives.

If that market didn't exist, the press wouldn't publish this. That in no way is meant to exonorate the tabloid press who are utter scum, but there's two sides to it.

The current Government will never do anything about a press that acts as their propaganda machine.

You'd be hard pressed to claim the press were cheerleading for Gordon Brown.

I saw enough of him in Priory after we beat Brentford to make an opinion on him.

No doubt he had a skinfull but he was still acting a prick.

I'm a soft touch, but f**k, that is a raw listen.

Leaves me thinking.

WE, the fans, demand something from our clubs' players. But we have no idea what it does to them. Or at least, to the vulnerable ones of them.

I certainly didn't agree with the Thomas story or the Ben Stokes family history one but I'm not going to have a go at the press until I see the Cotterill one..

Whilst it's commendable that he has sorted his gambling problems and drinking and addressed his mental health that doesn't just mean the slate is automatically wiped clean. If it turns out he has defrauded people as alleged and he indicates then I'm sorry it's fair game that the story is reported..What about the victims whose life might have been ruined over this...

There are rumours that Cotterill is the subject of a criminal investigation. If that is the case and he ends up being charged, press attention is inevitable.

Looking forward to his autobiography and him coming on the forum in 10 years à la McIndoe...

It's all very sad for Cotterill and for any players at any club caught out in the same way but if he's done wrong so be it.
I wonder if anyone higher up the  foodchain at any club (and I'm sure there have been loads in the past and a fair few in the future) came under a similar investigation what the consensus would be amongst forums up and down the country?

Not sure whether Bennett is injured but he hasn’t played in a league game for Bristol Rovers for a month now.
