Football clubs do have heart !
« on October 27, 2019, 09:58:06 pm by since-1969 »
As a result of their game being called off against Reading in Saturday, Nottingham Forest donated 3000 food parcels to the homeless . Instead of spoiling  tonnes of food the pasties , pies and sandwiches etc ..they gave away to  the Framework charity for the homeless .

Saw that. Very pleased they did that. Will help a lot of needy people. But it is not much of a donation is it? Food we were going to throw away we gave to the needy instead of the bin. If they had paid for food over and above their sunk cost then that would have been laudable. Still at least some folk got a feed they would not have otherwise.

Eh.?

Preparing the food would have cost a bit and they lost any revenue from selling it..

The game was called off and the cost of the food was sunk. What were the other options? Ring up shops and offer them a discount for a load of second hand food? They had bought it and were left with the cost. Options were bin or to the needy or homeless. Glad they took the later action but let us not have Forest down as the great philanthropists of our time. Also noted that shame there were not too many food parcels coming north in 84/85 either...

What the hell has this got to do with the differences during the miners strike FFS.?

This was a generous gesture they didn’t have to make, why you need to make any more of it is beyond me.

Why not just stop after your 3rd full stop? They didn’t have to do anything.

Well done Forest and Tranmere and everyone else doing what they can to help.

They would have been kitsons if they'd thrown it in the bin rather than donate it, surely anyone would have done the same.

Well they clearly don't, or else this wouldn't be newsworthy. It is, and they should be commended for doing a nice thing. Really that's all that needs to be said on it in my opinion.

Lol. Sorry chaps. I very much understand the point CBCB is making. Forest had spent the money. What were they to do with the stuff once its purpose had gone? Chuck it or give it away are the only two options (I think). We're all glad they chose the latter. But doing so does not make them heroes of charity. It makes them sensible and reasonable and making the best of a bad job. Cynics amongst you might suspect it makes them opportunists.

Cheers

Personally Bob I tend to find those that always look for the good things than bad in situations are happier than the cynics.
The disappointments are outweighed by the pleasant outcomes.
Looking at some of Forest's decisions over the years I think they have rarely seemed to grasp an opportunity for many seasons.

What has the miners strike got to do with this?

Your right, it would've gone to waste if not.
However its not something they had to do or the norm to be honest or it wouldn't be newsworthy.

It's a nice gesture, and im sure those affected were greatful.
