Madger Gomes - his passing
« on February 02, 2020, 11:52:05 am by Branton Rover »
When the lad passes the ball it’s crisp, direct and largely accurate to feet, given that recently he’s plied his football further forward in the Copps role especially away from home - I think his talents could be utilised better in the deeper position alongside Whiteman - nothing against Sheaf who I like, but of the two my preference would be Gomes playing there - then DM could play/rotate Copps and the new lad Ramsey in behind

Whilst I agree with you that Gomes has improved dramatically this last month and by having a left footed player in that deep midfield area does open up distribution channels left as well as right. But Madger needs to work on getting his head up and looking for that pass a lot earlier, he carries the ball for too long and releases it too late, sometimes getting caught with it or worse still closes down the waiting DRFC players space. He often looks just for that longer pass out wide as well rather than the neat one twos and forward passes to feet that we see from Sheaf & Whiteman. He is also nowhere near as good in the air as Sheaf either.

Madger now needs ton getting his head up and looking for that pass a lot earlier, he carries the ball for too ,long and releases too late and sometimes get caught with it or worse still closes down the waiting players space. Or as good as Sheaf at tackling.
Sheaf plays a major part in winning the ball in midfield and i think is seriously underrated by some on here.

Whiteman is not at his best in the last month or so. He isn’t getting hold of a game like he was earlier in the season. Not involved enough on the ball & not getting into scoring positions enough. There is a lot more to come from him hopefully in the latter part of the season.
