Ultimate Cult Hero - Eliminator #6: The Outliers
« on April 25, 2020, 02:41:12 pm by RoversAlias »
Just the one vote today (I'm trying to align the votes on Twitter so will resume with two a day from Monday) as we pit four players against one another who were all unlikely heroes of the Rovers, but at one time at least became just that.

Jan Budtz, known for his shoot-out heroics in our Carling Cup run, Lewis Guy who often frustrated but did score our first goal back in the Championship, Sam Hird who never quite hit the heights but played a key role in our 2008 promotion, and Tris Whitman who of course scored the vital equaliser against Chester in the Conference Play-Offs.

So, who do you think most deserves to represent The Outliers in the last 16?

It could be argued that Tristram Whitman’s goal in the Semil Final first leg was just as important as Sir Francis’s goal

Totally agree with that, just when we were having to accept a home defeat (despite having to play the ties the other way round!)

Has to be Tristram for his 92nd minute equaliser against Chester - that gave us a fighting chance in the second - he came from Arnold Town, Notts & not sure if he did much else after leaving us but made a big impact when he was at Belle Vue

Got to be Slim.

I wouldn't vote for Guy if it was a choice between him and nobody. Could never consider a player who was always looking for a dive a hero of any sort.

This one is the closest vote so far, on here and Twitter - although with very different outcomes on both platforms so far as has been the case with a few of the votes.

The next set of polls will be going up tomorrow, and we should be through the Eliminator round by next weekend. Thanks everyone for taking part so far, and if you haven't voted on the ones still open at present please get them in!

I'm going to put the confirmed results so far into this thread as the Outliers vote is still open and is easily the closest one yet!

Combining results from Twitter and the VSC forum, here are the results of the first four polls:

Terriers: Ricky Ravenhill (116), Iain Hume (84), Alfie May (73), Alan Little (72)

Workers: John Doolan (135), Simon Gillett (54), John Schofield (26), Joe Laidlaw (21)

Keepers: Dennis Peacock (104), Andy Rhodes (49), Mark Samways (37), Wilie Boyd (33)

Stoppers: Adam Lockwood (89), Barry Miller (53), James Chambers (40), John Nicholson (35)

So our first four players into the Sweet 16 are Ravenhill, Doolan, Peacock and Lockwood! The only big difference between Twitter and the VSC here was the first vote, with Ravenhill running away with it despite Alan Little being the clear winner here on the forum.

Has to be Tristan,  never fancied us to over turn a deficit at their place. Without him maybe none of what followed

Most of the Twitter voters won’t remember the 70’s & 80’s
So it’s two different polls really.

Hence why it's right to do the poll on both platforms as it gives a better representation of the overall fanbase. The only thing making the difference at the moment is that there are less votes being cast here on the forum than on Twitter.

Of the five completed votes so far only one has had a big swing in another direction when tallying the Twitter votes to the forum ones.
