These are unique circumstances and it is clear that the most sensible line to take to ensure survival is to commit only to spend what we are contractually obliged to .I would imagine that the players who are out of contract will have been told whether or not we want them to stay and will have to wait until income streams start to re open before any financial  deal can be discussed .
Typical shallow TV pundits on commentary last night at  the League two play offs talking as if all players would be seeking to improve their lot by gaining promotion or getting transfered ....yeah ...sure !

To me it reads like the club has a survival plan albeit spending less on players.

Seen as many other clubs will be in the same situation, or worse, there is a good chance we would have a competitive squad for whenever next season starts.

I think everyone should be tempering their expectations. The only real expectation or hope is getting back to watching a live game of football from the red n White hoops, whoever's wearing them!

It will almost be like a “consolidation” season after a promotion.  My only expectation will be for a team on the pitch to be competitive.  Anything else will follow.

And a manager who stays from one season to the next! Sshhh! Hope I'm not tempting anything! 🙈

I thought the interview was encouraging for Rovers. I'm hopeful we will see a  competitive side next season even if we can't bring in any big signings. We have a decent foundation in place to build on.

Seems to me we are very vunerable to a cut price bid for our captain. Would we be in a position to reject a cheeky offer fro. A championship side?

I think we are better placed than a lot of championship teams are to offer money and better pay than he will be on in his old contract with us for the coming season.
Which teams do you think have anything else but debt in that division Rugby Rover? not many I can assure you.

I didn’t read that at all.

Of course, there may be some clubs looking to buy players who would try to drive prices down due to the current situation.

If we needed to sell to survive as a club, that is a different issue but that article suggests we have a plan to move forward as it stands.

I'm taking the view that at the end of this , if there is an end that is , if I still have a football club in existence I'll settle for that .

Anything else is a bonus .

The club, as I've mentioned in recent weeks, has several plans.

But it all depends on the circumstances I've pointed out, when does the season start?, can supporters be allowed into the ground?, when can we unfurlough the staff and players? How many supporters will want their money back for tickets already purchased? etc etc.

What Gavin has said is that we have a plan based on what we know so far. So the budget will reflect that, but can alter depending on answers to the previous questions.

We're not in the worst place possible, but we are on a sticky wicket along with all clubs at our level. If we can keep our heads and follow the current strategy we can get through this in reasonable shape, but nothing is guaranteed.

Yes that’s what I got from the DFP article - the club presenting as positive an outlook on the situation as it is possible to do at the moment.

Yep, there's going to be changes to the club as we know it (obvious really) but the key is to stay in business, have another look in a few weeks, and then go from there.
