COVID19 and Big Clubs' Finances
« on August 03, 2020, 12:02:36 am by BillyStubbsTears »
Wow. I've just seen a statement from Barcelona's President.

They lost 200m Euros as a result of the lockdown. They are expecting to lose nearly 800m Euros next season (down 70% on the expected 1.1bn Euro income). And he expects the problems to go on for 3-4 years.

This is difficult to take in, in terms of its potential effect on transfer fees and wages. But maybe it will encourage a little more sanity at the top end. A realisation that the money tap isn't guaranteed to stay flowing.

BST ..add to this the hits that BT and Sky are taking in reduced subscription rates and drop in advertising revenue and it points to a serious shock to the top tier of English football that has become so dependent on revenue from TV .

...and will this tempt owners of P.L. clubs to increase the price of tickets in order to make up for the loss of (some of this) revenue?

When things do eventually get back to normal and supporters are allowed back in to full capacity, i wonder how our attendances will be affected by the ones who may have lost interest and got out of the habit of going to games.
