I got £25 back from Admiral during the first lockdown. Didn't need to ask for it they just gave it to me.
My quote this year went down a fiver, quick search on a comparison site same company same cover was the cheapest £72 less than my renewal quote and another company within 3 quid of the lower price Quick phone call they asked if i could remember the date of the search I told them approx double checked my details renewal sorted at the lowest price. They seem to be able to do a sort of reverse search with your reg number onto the comparison sites cos he knew the amount that had been quoted. But why the hell dont they just damn well give you the lowest if had been within say a fiver of the lowest price I wouldnt have bothered and they would be a fiver better off although I suppose 70 quid is a few fivers
I’m with Direct Line. My renewal had gone up £30 since last year. I tried Compare the Market and Go Compare. The cheapest quotes were about £5 cheaper than Direct Line. I rang Direct Line and said that it seemed a bit unfair that it had gone up when they must have paid less out in claims due to COVID and less traffic/mileage etc. He said hang on I’ll see what I can do, they then knocked £35 off. So it was cheaper than the comparison sites and even cheaper than last year.
Did mine online, we are insured for 10k per year on mine and 2k on the missus' car. Think we got £100 back overall. They would certainly want to sting me if I temporarily increase the mileage so its worth claiming back as it took seconds via an online form and i just re declared my estimated mileage.I would only let my insurance auto renew if its within £50 or so, but it rarely is. I had a really good experience with Direct Line when I had an accident recently and would take some shifting but they were 100's more recently so i moved to Tesco. I would assume they have target levels of insured members per group and don't want all their eggs in one basket. When they get too many employed 40 something homeowners on their books they will bang the premium right up to dissuade new applicants. They don't usually match a quote thats way off, I've even been told by some providers to let it lapse and then sign up again with them to get the newcomer discountI had a non-fault bump about 20 months ago. DL sorted it out fairly quickly but my renewal premium shot up by over £100. Nobody else was cheaper so I renewed. I don't know if my age helped send it up as I was 70 when it happened.
