Can someone remind me of the obscene amounts that the likes of Rees Mogg and co will make from a No Deal Brexit? Just asking

I don't think we know.

We DO know though, the Rees-Mogg's business partner and Leave campaign funder Crispin Odey made £220m on the night of the Referendum, having bet that the Pound would plummet in value.

Would this be before the result of the referendum was publicly known?

I seem to remember the investment was made when the Leave side got their private polling figures saying that the result was Leave.

You may recall Farage's reaction to the Pound collapsing as the results started to come in.

You may also recall Farage going in front of the cameras after the polls had closed, looking doleful and saying he reckoned they'd lost.

Which was a strange thing to do, as shortly before that, he'd been given the results of a huge exit poll privately commissioned by the Leave side, saying they'd won. It would take a real cynic to think that the might have been playing the markets, wouldn't it?

Well there appear to be one or two cynics at Bloomberg.

Interesting article, Nudga.

The other links in this thread goes to show we need full disclosure of interests from those looking to access public funds.

Likewise, those advising government need to have clean hands, and should be expected to reveal any potential conflicts of interest.

Members of Sage are appointed rather than elected by the scientific community, and you can see that there is a potential for recruitment of sympathetic voices, rather than a balanced range of scientific opinion.

I am not saying this has happened here, but the setting up of IndySage was a direct counterweight to the government claim to be "guided by the science", when clearly they were not listening to the Imperial report on the need for an earlier lockdown in March....just one example of the point!

Disaster Capitalism - Are Johnson's hedge-fund backers driving No Deal policy?

Byline Times story from last year - sound familiar?

Meanwhile, in the grip of the current crisis, more background noises;

All without any effective supervision or debate.
No need for government by consent any more, by the look of it!

Maybe not.
It looks like a deal could be on the table.
