Looks like we might be dropping the young guns again.....how are they ever going to establish themselves....lots on here wanting ready-mades and championship football to eagerly......

The club can’t win can they?

Stick with youth players and they would be labelled tight and penny pinchers.

Rumoured to be interested in a couple more senior players on permanent deals and people moan we aren’t giving youth a chance?!

I for one will be pleased to see a couple more experienced heads come in and would’ve been mightily annoyed had replaced Whiteman with a youth teamer or young loan for the rest of the season.

Moaning for moaning sake!

There was a good article on Bostock on BBC Sport before Christmas. Basically he wants to come back to the UK now he has a kid.

We need a mix don't we? In a promotion race if we are serious we need experience a bit further forward. Just look at Andy Butler's impact to prove the effect it can have.

We do.

Equally, Whiteman was an "inexperienced kid" when he joined us.

The truth is in the middle somewhere. Buggered if I can find it. I think the old adage "if he's good enough he's old enough" probably fits though.

It’s not a moan, merely an observation.....we are still managing to get results and blood the young lads  .. if we bring in ready mades, then the obvious ones to drop are the less established,.....and we start the cycle again...... like I said , it’s just an observation that needs balancing somehow...

Totally agree you need a good balance. Don't forget the legend himself won't be around for much longer to have his positive influence on the younger ones.

With having more subs these days, there's plenty of scope for the younger ones to get a chance.. And more than a fleeting one hopefully.

I don’t think we’re signing players because the young ones aren’t good enough, we’re signing players because the squad is tiny.
An injury or two in February and we’d be knackered without the opportunity to replace them

sadly the life span of a football manager is usually less than 2 years in average. They havnt got the time to blood the kids thinking they will give them time to find their feet.   If its a case of get a experienced bloke in now, and potentially get promoted,  or throw a youth in, and hope for the best, you can see why they would go for experience.  Especially at this stage of the season.

An interesting aside.
As per transfermarkt website.
Ben Whiteman - 196 appearances.
John Bostock - 230.

So not much in it. Bostock has had a wider career, and generally played at a higher level, but not the same level of games per season.

As I’ve pointed out before, it’s all well and good saying we are grinding out results at the moment, but, look at the teams we’ve played in the last 6 and the teams we are playing in the next 6. They are much harder games and will ultimately define our season in all likelihood.

We need more experience and better quality than what we currently have on the bench to give us the best chance.

Surely we're not getting two players with the initials JB? What a coincidence that would be!!

Come on, time to nail your guess to the mast and decide which one it's most likely to be.

I'll go with Bayford. I don't mind being wrong though.

As per Yorkshire post.
DM wants at least 4 players in.
That seems a better number than 2. One I would guess would be sims, or sim replacement. Then at least 3 more.
Say a MD, a fw and a utility player?

One striker, one winger/striker, one midfielder for definite going off what DM has been quoted as saying, the other I’m assuming would be Sims or replacement. I don’t think the winger/striker is his replacement.

I’m confused with all these permutations:

1. Who is Martin Brayford - there’s a John Brayford at Burton, but he’s a defender!

2. Who’s Bayford?

3. Someone has (somehow) determined that one of the possibles has the initials JB. So, if true, anyone called Martin is not in the running.

Sounds like the two offers are for a midfielder and a striker, so that rules out Brayford.

Hoden did a Q&A yesterday on his Twitter and someone asked if their initials are JB, he alluded to that being the case.

I think what DM wants and what he gets might be 2 different things entirely! I hope not, but unless there’s been a re-think at Board level, I just don’t see it.

It has to be said, we havn’t been this close for a number of seasons, so fingers are crossed for a positive end to the January window.

All right Alan, my spell checks not up to Brayford!

He might be classed as a defender but some might say he's a utility player. Someone suggested there may be a religious connection.. Well he looks like an image of Jesus!

As long as he can walk on water I'm not fussed!

I think at 33, he’s a bit on the old side. His contract runs out in June, so a short term contract doesn’t get him anywhere! The talk was that one of the players would be a short term deal - to me, that means someone who is a free agent, but wants to keep his options open in the summer. If we get promoted, then that person would probably agree to sign for longer.

Of course, it could be the forward player that’s the free agent, so, who knows?

My gut feeling is the midfield player is either Bostock or O’Riley. If it’s O’Riley, then the forward player has initials JB.

I rest my case, mi lud.

Ah, but will that list include DM who has apparently said he wants four players in.

It was me who came out with the "Martin" bit, Alan. I was having a brain fart.
