Poignant thought. Which name has not come up in any of those formations?

No, there isn’t.

It’s a 4-2-3-1
he means the original .

Yes it was me who crocked up with three up front.

Copps. But he will hopefully step in to put on a masterclass with Bostock.

I don’t see DM changing from a back 4.

I certainly hope he doesn’t as i have never been a fan of 3 centre backs and wing backs below Premier league level. All it does is draw your centre backs out of position to cover the hole where your full back should be and creates spaces in the middle for the opposition to exploit.

If you play with 2 holding midfielders and 1 always sits, then your full backs can still bomb forward as they do under the current system.

I am pretty sure DM will stick wit his 4-2-3-1 system whoever he plays in the team.
Let’s face it the system is very fluid and I think we all get far too bogged down in formations and systems.
As long as the players understand what they are supposed to be doing then it will work. All our players seem very comfortable with how DM wants them to play.
Unlike under a certain other manager ( no names mentioned ) who were very uncomfortable with the way he wanted his players to play.

Where do you get the idea that Moore wants to play a back 3 as well? That’s a massive deviation from what we’re used to, like many others I just can’t really see it happening. For my our strongest side is:

Balcombe
Halliday Anderson Butler James
Bostock Smith
Fej Richards Sims
John-Jules

I think Moore would probably see it the same way, arguably with Taylor in for John-Jules or Bogle featuring and John in at left back.

An ability to recognise what he has and how to use it too. Not all our managers have had that have they?

BobG

It struck me yesterday that if DM takes us up this season, it'll be the first time we've gone into the second tier managed by someone who's managed at that level before...

I was wondering about Peter Doherty - but Wikipedia tells me the Rovers was his first managerial job. So, spot on Glyn!

Cheers

With so many games coming thick and fast it's unlikely there will be a static/best 11/dream team line-up. Rotation will be the key, whether that will be game to game or within each game, conservation of energy, avoiding injuries. As we know, tired players get injured more easily due to lack of concentration and mistakes.

The best way to achieve this is probably within a disciplined structure where each player (and deputy) understands the role they have to perform.

The second half of this season will be a greater test for each club than they have experienced before. It will be relentless. Expect shock results aplenty.

Being able to bounce back from set backs will be crucial. That and coping with injuries, suspensions and daft refereeing decisions will be key. Smaller squads are likely to feel the impact more.

With half a season's fixtures to play in 3 months there are maybe a dozen clubs in contention for a top six place right now. By the middle of March several contendrrs will likely have fallen by the wayside, at which point everything intensifies. The stakes will get higher.

New signings don't always pay off either. They can disrupt as well as improve so nothing can be taken for granted. It's a roll of the dice in January. Let's hope that impacts others.

However you look at it this season will test managers and players to the limit. It will be intense, a roller coaster.

And right now there are maybe 20 teams in this league that would swap places with us in the blink of an eye, lock, stock and barrel.

More likely:

             Barcombe

Halliday.    Anderson/Wright.  Butler/ John.   John/James

     Smith/Robertson/Bostock   James/Gomes/Bostock

   Taylor/Sims.       Richards/Bostock.        Sims/Simoes/Fej

                       Fej/Bogle/JJ

The ultimate in flexibility and squad rotation.

We're blessed that we have all those options!

And no copps....
