Graeme Jones
« on March 30, 2021, 08:31:43 pm by Branton Rover »
Like Moore another who played for Rovers under the arsonist but has gone on to have coached at a high level including internationally and is in a coaching job at Newcastle - he’s had one job in management at Luton which didn’t end particularly well - however, due to being a small club there’s no disgrace in that  - does anyone think he might be a potential managerial target for us ?

Ps I always think it’s better appointing someone who’s in a job rather than the usual suspects from the merry go round

He wasn’t very well thought of by Baggies fans or Luton fans

The Championship is incredibly difficult challenge for a rookie manager - a step down into our league to forge out a managerial career could probably suit him better

Baggies fans seemed to hold him accountable for the way WBA started playing, however having seen the same happen to us the only common denominator is DM himself

Was he not Richardsons man in the dressing room?

Would put me right off him getting the job

Albion and Luton fans hate him, by and large, and to be honest he looks in line for the Newcastle job if they boot Bruce now.

I'd not want him here.

A good goalscorer but, somehow, (and it is irrational) I've never warmed to him.

Didn’t he live in Rossington when he played for us and was a bit aloof and full of himself, Colin Cramb  who played at the same time was totally opposite

I think I would appreciate someone with League One managerial experience. The style of play is different from other leagues and we could lose time on a manager discovering this the hard way.

That said, the board have the right to choose who they deem as the best option, considering all factors, so I'm never going to say they've made the wrong call.

I am not sure whether the board has been burned by the last few managers, and with the greatest will in the world, might potentially be looking for a less ambitious manager. What I mean by this is probably an older hand who bigger clubs are less likely to poach as the current vogue appears to be younger managers. Jackett not the man, but someone of that vintage who might stick around for a while could be a route worth exploring.

Definite no from me, I’m hoping Andy can turn it around however looking at managers out of work at the moment I wouldn’t be interested in any of them.

If Butler doesn't get the job then I'd look at Clough or Stendel, as they tick the boxes for style. Dave Challinor is pretty decent too.

Personally I’d go for Clough - did great with Burton first time & his win percentage at Sheffield United very healthy 47.1% - he’ll surely be financially secure - it’s whether he still has hunger for a job like ours

I'm not sure Clough would come here. I grant you it isn't much further away, but Mansfield is near his hometown and the club spend money, he'll be on decent wages there - let's not forget that Mansfield made an approach for Darren Moore before turning to Clough - so whilst I'd not say he's out of our scope by any means I'm not so sure he'd leave Mansfield for a club of our stature.

He tends to favour an attacking, pressing, passive style too, Clough that is.

I’d be disappointed if we got him. No chance of him being a good manager.

If Butler doesn't keep it I'd go for Brian McDermott. Plays football the right way. Has good contacts in the game and available.
