It's worked at clubs and failed at clubs, I think we need experience now

Who though?

I'm not against RJ having a chance at all, look at Garry Monk.

I'm inclined to agree, although in Jones we do have someone who can hold the fort until we appoint the right man.

certainly don't agree jones, remember penney had walker to lean on and that helped I don't see anybody at the club to guide jones thro,my choice would be brian deane itching for a chance in this country maybe with jones.that could be the cheap option the rovers will look for.other names that have been talked about would cost

Worked when we brought in Dave Penney, why should it not work this time?

COYR

We were in the Conference - a totally different skillset needed. Whilst he just about made it to League 1 level, penney would have been slaughtered in the Championship. We are needing someone who can potentially straddle the 2nd and 3rd tier effectively.

A leap in the dark! So you're suggesting in his time at the club he's gained no knowledge about the squad, or in his time managing the youth squad he's gained no managerial skills, or he hasn't displayed clear leadership qualities? Give over........
"Managing" the youth squad is a start. Knowledge of the squad in terms of being a fellow player and captain - could just as easily get in the way as be a benefit. A fresh manager can probably more easily cut through the crap. He's a leader as a captain, which is nothing like in the same ball park as being a manager.

I love the bloke for what he is, I don't think he's one for the managers job, but could be a handy number two for an incoming appointment, though as club captain he is in his optimal positionalready IMO. Anyone got anything to show he has made wise managerial type decisions?

Any problem in giving Jones 5 games to see how we do?

Who knows what is the best move :)

It could be argued having someone in as "see how he does" for 5 games is throwing away 5 games, and that 5 games doesn't allow anyone a crack of the whip.

DP guided us to League 1 - one of the all time heros of the club. But he was sacked because it was becoming obvious he'd reached his limit and JR had aspirations.

I think someone mentioned Brian McDermott. Could be pricey, but worth  it I reckon.

I think you might have said one word that would rule him out.

Am I imagining it, but didn't Rob Jones form part of the partnership along with BF which got us promoted as Champions? Admittedly the team was created with no little help from Mr Saunders but it still needed the leadership for the 2nd half of the season.
So a shot in the dark, untested at this level - mmmmmm.

Penney woulddn't have taken notice of that clown. My 13 yr old daughter has more of a clue about football than him & she hates football.

We will go for the cheapest option, whoever that might be.

This, sadly.

Why not Gary Megson?  He is experienced and has been successful in his time , a proven manager

The football we played under Saunders will look like Barcelona compared to the stuff Megsons teams play.

It would appear that if PD is shown the door and we get a new bloke in that straight away about half the fans will say he is crap and shouldn't have been appointed.
The merry go round will start again.

Thought I would be ahead of the game....

Redfearn out! We only got him because he was cheap. (Don't let him coach penalties either, the one I saw him take at Notts County when with us nearly grazed the floodlight pylon!).

With the combination of our financial position (not knocking it) and Megson we would struggle to sign players. I know of pro players who have avoided signing for a club that Megson was the manager of at the time.

Well it's getting on for 6 years since CLH suggested Wellens would make a manager - in red ink which seemed a bit obvious at the time. Could

but if the club had taken CLH's   advice at the time then the marquee prediction made on here would never have happened courtesy of the massey ferguson.

Loans

lets hope Wellens can get one or two loanees from Man U (even a son of a gun one day ?) and raid Leicester City  youth

Centre forward "The Admiral" who played against Rovers for Leicester last season went on loan to Wycombe in the Championship ..  not sure what happened to the rest of the Leicester "kids" as they dont have easy to remember names

could say Rovers have entered into wellens syndrome  ??  as opposed to

.
