First XI taking shape...

Interesting article on Smith - states that he will play right side of a three with Ben Close and sounds like Bostock who Wellens has been complimentary of once again.

Reading the other articles this week his chosen centre backs are Williams and Anderson and Louis Jones has been offered the #1 shirt.

We haven't signed the player for the base of the midfield three yet. Bostock, Close and Smith will all be the first options for the other 2 spots I would imagine.

With a left midfield attacker and a keeper still to be signed, and JT having to recover and retrain after his operation, we are still a few short.

The defensive midfielder is going to be a really important signing for us, going forward. Obviously, it seems RW will need to move a couple out before we can secure the lad he’s after. In Richie’s own words:
Quote
“We just need someone in there now with legs who can break the game up when we are expansive and do open the game up, and he can cover that 15 or 20 yards distance quickly to allow the team to recover.”

First loanee is now in the building and there’s plenty of room for more good quality loanees to come in, particularly in the attacking third.

Really interested to see where Cameron John fits into all this. I've not seen much of Williams so not commenting either way but for me John is our best centre half (at least potentially anyway) - but it's also a bit strange that it's looking likely that now two managers are not keen on using him as first choice.

We have 17 players now plus 4 development players.
We still need a goal keeper, DM and LM.
We are supposed to be putting two players on the transfer list.
Our defensive positions seem to have cover.
Midfield and attack is lean for cover and two short of a league starting eleven. That’s if Taylor is fit.

Sometimes it's what managers don't say that matters and those not necessarily favoured either disappear or grasp it and kick on. My impression of Cameron John in interviews has always been he's quite switched on and will push onwards. Last season wasn't his best but for me it's criminal how little he's been used at centre back by both managers he's had so far.

I remember a certain right midfielder being out of favour once, we all know which direction he took.  That's what Cameron John needs to do.

Needs a DM in there. Greaves is the only choice currently.

Needs keeper, DM, LAM, RAM.

According to Richie, we have enough in the budget for a keeper and LAM. That leaves 2 positions to fill. RW is very keen to get the right DM, but we have to shift 2 out to free up funds, which may or may not be easy!

I know JT will probably fill the RAM position, but we’ve zero back-up in the left or right attacking areas. So, something has to give and maybe that’s where the remaining loans will come in to provide competition for places.

It appears Richie is also warming to Bogle, who seems to be working hard in pre-season.

The 5 Dallas boys.

F*ck me, I'm showing my age now. I doubt BB and Wolfie will let me get away with this one.

I’m guessing he will sign a new GK and left winger/forward, then use his 4 loans left for 1 striker, 2 wingers/forwards and a back up defender. I can see C Johh, E Williams and 1 or 2 young lads out on loan to enable him to sign the defensive midfielder he wants. John was a bit of a surprise signing at the time so I can see him being on decent wages
