Giorgio Chiellini

Sat watching the game, and keep thinking to myself that this lad reminds me so much of Rob Jones, commanding and so so instrumental to the Italian side !

I loved Chiellinis’ attitude leading into the  pens.
He put his arms round the Spanish captain and hugged him, made a couple of jokes and kept on smiling through the process of the coin toss.
Brilliant.

My summary of the match is Italy "played Spain into form" then did us a favour by giving England an easier match in the final.

Chiellini looks a banker for a yellow card v England.

Haha same. Can't imagine him trying to cuddle the opposing Captain though.

Amazing player.

After what Sterling did again tonight poor old Chiellini will be having nightmares  and the rumour is The Italian team have just placed a large order for extra toilet rolls

I doubt Sterling will be allowed to run at the Italian defence. You can bet he will be in for some rough stuff - trips, pushes, cynical stuff…

But that’s the point.  When an attacker runs at the defence, there is always a chance to create something, or win a free kick, or a penalty.  Not every time of course, but if you don’t try it won’t happen.  We have Sterling and a few others who have the courage to have a go.

If we just lump long high balls or crosses on for Kane, we’ll have no chance.

That’s true IDM but we don’t lump balls up to Kane do we.
We are so patient with our build up and generally the quality of our close control and passing is excellent.

Not too often, but we need to play to the strengths of Sterling etc to get past those two CB’s..

Two ageing CB’s in Chiellini and Bonucci, will not be the quickest, we have to run at them, turn them around, our pace up front could cause problems for them

Those 2 don't play for Italy by being mugs. Sterling might beat them once but it will probably be the only time. Dark Arts!

Can we tempt Jamie Vardy out of retirement? If ever there was a game for him.

At (nearly) 37 and 34 they are not in the first flush of youth.  I'd agree that the way to get to them is pace and directness.  I wouldn't bet on there not being a sending off in the game as both teams have quick forwards.

Yes, but not if he is stopped 40 yards out was what I was getting at. Or any runners for that matter.
Referee is going to have to be very vigilant.

pulling the shirt is accepted in football , but ask yourself have any of you ever seen a player pull someone shirt so he literally would find it hard to breath -- there is pulling the shirt and throttling with the shirt  even the "Animal Argentinians" in 66 didn't do that

Chiellini will be remembered in history for this

whilst  i thought he was a cert for a booking i meant a "more traditional one"

Like I said on the other thread, CLH, I've seen Rugby League players sent off for the same thing, yet some people don't seem to think it was worthy of a red.

I said before the tournament started, he was Rob Jones.

I thought it was hilarious that Dean Saunders called the two Italian centre halves ‘cart horses’ on TalkSPORT. On the sauce again Dino.

I said before kick off, worst thing we can do is sit too deep and then start playing hoof ball to those two.

Guess what.

I didn’t see anything remarkable from the Italian centre backs apart from they got away with a lot of niggly over physical stuff and didn’t get punished…

Getting away with stuff makes you cunning not great at your job…..my opinion only
