Watched a piece on Look North the other night about Cleethorpe’s residents complaining about the amount of raw sewage, sanitary towels & toilet paper in the sea. Paddle boarders & swimmers were asking why the government wasn’t doing more to prevent water companies from discharging so much raw sewage into rivers where it ultimately ends up in the sea.The Conservative MP for Cleethorpes, Martin Vickers (since 2010), had recently voted against amending a bill that allowed these companies to discharge sewage into waterways at times of serious rainfall or when their systems become ‘overwhelmed’.He was interviewed via zoom & asked why he had voted against a bill that left his constituents *up to their eyes in it*, or words to that affect. He replied “The bill does need amendments & I will support any motion passed by Westminster on this matter”.You couldn’t make it up!
It gets worse AL I kid you not.On the same programme there was a sad indictment on today’s society with the reported death of a 10 year old boy who was ‘lured’ to a spot & knifed to death by a 15 year old.A police Superintendent was interviewed & he said “We are determined to slash knife crime in this area…..”Is it so difficult a task to choose your wording more carefully especially when addressing a large tv audience on such delicate matters?
Like the one where Robert Jenrick was defending Hancock for getting his end away at work. Said it was time to stop the witch hunt and let Hancock get back on the job.
