I’m guessing you’re the sort of person then who would say the same about 2 to 4. It’s that sort of statement that loses the credibility of an otherwise valid point
It all depends what the thing is we are talking about.

If you are talking about pinpricks, an increase from 2 to 4 isn't very significant, even though it is a doubling. If you are talking about the number of bullets that someone fires roughly in your direction, and increase from 2 to 4 is massive.

In this case, we are talking about a disease that I personally thought was confined to the Dickensian past. So yes, a doubling in cases is, in my opinion, a massive increase. The fact that cases have doubled under the Tories seems to me to be emblematic of the way that our approach to the poorest in society has gone this last decade.

I am guessing that someone / somewhere gets a Takeaway every night ? Maybe someone on here

The takeaway delivery men are operating in droves at Macs, Chinese , Chippy, Pizzas and wherever else I see even Subway and Greggs

On Sunday on Twitter a girl posted at 11.30 am - anybody open for breakfast deliveries so Im guessing the answer to my question is YES

Absolutely Wolfie and as has been said a few posts back, this is third generation stuff now.

I don't think it's a political thing. There have always been people like this, it's just that there's more of them now, but then again there are more of everyone.
That is up there with the very best of Yogi Berra!

On a stretch of road out of the town I live there is a McDonalds & a KFC next to one another.

I’ve passed during lunchtimes, teatimes & early evenings & you wouldn’t believe the number of vehicles queuing at each in order to ‘grab’ a takeaway. Goodness knows how many are seated inside but you’d think they were giving the crap away free.

Is it fair to say that a large majority of ‘young parents’ (or partners) these days with children wouldn’t know one end of a leek, broccoli or parsnip from another?

Does the term ‘processed food’ have any meaning for them?

Are their parents to blame for treading the same ‘easy path’.

I think children are getting more ‘savvy’ about eating more healthily through school, but when mum or dad say ‘C’mon, I’ll ‘treat’ you to a McDonald’s’ what’s the kid likely to say?

And their grandparents I should think.

I remember being all the lads at school doing cooking classes, a good thing but it didn't last long.

There is really no excuse for not home cooking though - regardless of your financial standing.  There are enough recipes on line, You Tube videos, Bloggers etc etc that if you don't know how to do something the internet will assist you through it...

It doesn't have to be expensive either.... if you shop in the right places and pick your times there are loads of bargains to be had.  I regularly pick up ingredients for our evening meal in the yellow sticker aisle on my way home from work - even though we don't (financially) need to.  I can easily put together a substantial evening meal for two people for under 3-4 quid... and that will include vegetables, meat/fish and potatoes.

Yes - it takes a bit of effort and isn't as convenient as going to a chippy, drive-through or getting a takeaway, but it will be better for us and under half the price.  Even when we do fancy fish and chips, I will make my own and oven cook them - again very easy to do, tasty and better for you...

There are around 1.5m homes without the internet, I guess a few of them may be poor families?

I would also bet that a large chunk of that number are older folk who have no interest... However, that doesn't mean that they can't access the internet though.

It doesn't help that secondary schools peddle donuts, giant cookies, sugary drinks etc through their canteens as a matter of course. This conditions kids from a very impressionable age.

Is it too obvious a step to ban this kind of cr*p from schools?

Jamie Oliver highlighted the problems when he did his show in Rotherham. There are people who don't know how to cook and eat a lot of junk food even when they can't really afford it.

Personally I think nutrition, health and practical cooking ought to be part of the school syllabus. A much bigger part than it is now. It is a skill for life and there are a lot of kids who aren't shown at home.

I know there are lots of other issues surrounding this but I do think if we were to teach kids more comprehensively about food it would make a big difference.

When you look at how they do things in Italian schools, the difference is marked. But then that is a nation that really cares about food.

Schools with budgets squeezed having to generate income by abandoning their primary role of developing and educating our children.

Kids learn bad as well as good habits, it makes sense.
