But ultimately labour will eventually need policies and profile on themselves and that's where the view changes. What will they go for on brexit? What taxes will they propose? etc etc. That's where it becomes tough. And all that is assuming no labour scandal at any point and there will be one there always is something.

It'd easy to say things without actually getting off the fence. Look at Rachel reeves interview this morning. Asked if she backed tighter restrictions her answer was she wanted the government to do what is necessary to protect families at Christmas.  That didn't answer the question.  Quite the right strategy but at some point they have to show they can make decisions quickly.  They want to show they'd be government they need to say what they would do at that time or the hindsight thing does get through.

Labour and the Liberals do seem to be rather keen on keeping locked up at home even more than red/green Boris.

This is the thing isn't it because at some point Labour have to come out to play .

They have to have policies that cut through , they can't bombard the electorate with loads of em just a couple of big ones .

The NHS and Housing for instance should be at the very top of any Labour think tank .

Services and law and order is another .

The NHS is an absolute shoe in because it's a national treasure and connects with us all even more so with the pandemic .

100% this.
Despite some posters trying to tell us otherwise.
The country is desperate for a leader to take control of the country but it is hard to look through the fog to find one.

Very true because the vast majority of the country aren't interested in politics or at best their attention span is small .

So having somebody with charisma is important .

You could tell almost straight away when the Tories elected Cameron as leader that Gordon Brown was up against it .

Blair was able to cut through class division in a way Kinnock could not .

You could argue Thatcher cut through class division too .

Starmer is a bit of a one off in my opinion , working class background but comes across as every bit the establishment figure .

Unfortunately perception can be everything .

A strong leader to stand up for our own people, not fettered by the pc woke agenda. The MSM would go all out to destroy them before they had a chance. We need a British Viktor Orban.

Which is sad really. People don't care whether their leader is pro-penny pinching or pro-reduction in homeless figures.

Whilst I share some of your frustrations the answer isn't Orban .

Right wing populist governments need enemies to survive and remain popular .

Once they've exhausted their supply they'll come looking for you .

Aye, try telling Orban that you are a 'Freeman of the Land' and you are not going to obey his laws because you dont agree with them. Doubt we would be hearing from you ever again.

If we'd been having this discussion in 1936, I know exactly who AL would be saying we needed as the model for our leader.

First they came for the socialists and I did not speak out

Because I'm not a Socialist .

Then they came for the Trade Unionists and I did not speak out

Because I'm not a Trade Unionist

Then they came for the Jews and I did not speak out

Because I'm not a Jew

Then they came for me and there was nobody left to speak for me .

Why should i? All we need is a decent leader in 'my' country to look after 'my' interests for once, rather than look after every waif and stray, potential terrorist, sex offender and benefit scrounger that washes up on our shore. Most British people would support this.

No that’s exactly what we do not need.

Hope your not serious.  One thing we need to learn from is history.  Do you know what happened in the 1930’s in Europe.
If not I suggest you go and find out.
Is that the sort of world you want to live in. Seriously hope it is not.

Not the strong sort of decisive action you are calling for.

Who are you Donald Trump in disguise.  That’s what he tried and what did it create. A divided country with more hate and absolutely no tolerance towards others with different views, race or colour or even nationality.

Nope, only the gullible, bigots and racists would support that!

Trump would have won but for covid. Yes, he did say a few daft things but he got the economy moving again. Look at what they have now, a bloke who can't remember what day it is who is no more than a puppet.

AL I think your and my interests and those of most British people are already supported in the vast array of rights, freedoms and privileges that have accrued over the last few hundred years or so.**

Expect those to be eroded away by the likes of your mate in Hungary.

** Mostly fought for over time by those you would consider “woke”, btw.

He certainly did say some daft things. Like declaring - in writing - that his businesses were worth bugger all so as to pay sod-all tax on them whllst at the same time saying - in writing - they were worth billions in order to get banks to loan him money against them. That's criminal fraud and it won't be long before he gets formally charged.

It will be nice to see everyone on here finally get behind the government.

I don't think you can ever expect people of a left wing ideology to support a right wing government.
Plenty did at the last GE..

Absolutely, IDM; the reason being that left wing ideology is mainly against the EU.
