Warwick, ch-ch! I've just remembered the name of that headmaster who only had one hand. Harry Gledhall. He might have spelled it slightly differently but do you recognize him?

When I was at Hall Cross Comp in the 80s (the first year the grammar school became a comp), there was a t**t of a Geography teacher called Mr Round. He was about 4ft 6 and was a league linesman. It used to really bother me that a nob like him knew anything about football.

Best goalie Hawthorn Juniors ever had

Sent you an email

I would question that  :. Did you play in the Black & White stripes? I still remember the day when we got that new kit, thought we were world beaters, unfortunately Park Junior School & Bunny Brown thought different.

Hawthorn played in black and White stripes aka West Brom from back in the day (I think)

Just a bit of pedantry, Warwick. West Brom's stripes are navy blue.

True - very true

With Throstle aka Song Thrush on Badge Latin name Turdus philomelos [just saying]

If that year was your first year, you were the same year as me, then, Belton.  I never knew that Roundy was a linesman.  Surprising, given how the school pretty much ignored any sport that wasn't rugby or hockey

Mr. Round was still in that teaching job at Hall Cross as recently as 2009.

Hi Bob,

Not certain re Harry Gledhall. I've checked on line as well. Do you know which primary school?

Did you attend Wheatley Hills Boys?

Same year as Paul Raven?
Another ‘lame to fame’ of mine - we were in the same history class with Mr Jenkins.

Yep. I was pretty good mates with Paul at the time, as we’d been at South Cantley together.

It seems I initiated this thread in 2010. Thank you all for your long-term interest.  I suggest a Ouija board may be more useful than t’internet if this thread is to continue…
