Squad so far
« on July 19, 2022, 03:13:40 pm by Sammy Chung was King »
Gk Mitchell, Jones, Bottomley

Rb Knoyle

LB

Cb Ro-Williams, Anderson, Younger RB/CB, Long, Olowu, Faulkner

Mid Biggins cm/Att mid, Rowe D/C/Att mid, Clayton DM/Cm, Close D/C/Att mid, Barlow Att/ Wide mid, Ravenhill Dm/cm

Wide players Molyneux Winger/Attacking mid, Seaman Winger/RB, Taylor Winger/striker,

Strikers Griffiths, Miller, Andrews, Agard.

Squad 23**before injuries and trialists coming in/ with injuries included the squad is down to 17 **available players including 2 goalkeepers.
So 15 **available outfield players not including trialists who might not sign.

Injured Anderson, Seaman, Bottomley, Close, Barlow, Olowu (I’ll last game)

Possibles to come in. Rb trialist, Lb trialist, Att midfield trialist, 2 central midfield, 1 striker- Fej I’m assuming is still training with us?, so that’s **6 possibles to come in.

I would definitely sign the trialists mentioned in the last game. Not sure on the kid from Rossington, maybe on a small deal. The from York has he done enough to sign?, not sure he has.

The right back trialist I think is quick enough and has the ability to play wide right.

The attacking midfield trialist, he has vast experience, better ability than we have in the squad. A year deal would be about right. The other trialists being younger I would give eighteen month deals

Say we signed all of the trialists with players back from injury that would mean a squad of 29 players.
Normally that would be too big a squad, but not when you take into account extra substitutions being able to be made. We need good options on the bench.

Plus more than likely with players fit some of the trialists if signed would go out on loan. Faulkner, Ravenhill and Bottomley also would.
That would take the squad down to about 24** which would be perfect.

For me if we sign the six trialists(Fej) included in that, our business would be done. Then you have the loan market for emergencies. What do you think?

Personally I’m hoping we sign the four trialists that have impressed then play our strongest 11 in the last game

Same here. Maybe try two different formations for sixty to seventy minutes in each game.

I think 1 of the 4 impressive triallists could well be a loan (with a view to a signing), so that would make 2 loans with room for maybe one more.

Yes the winger trialist will be a loan with a view to a permanent, depending on how well he does.

Maybe he doesn’t want to commit until considering all options.
A big step for a young lad moving so far from home.

As I trying to point out to Sammy, you're jumping the gun and coming to an unfair conclusion.

Have you read the update the DFP said they were going to provide?

A deal is still on and discussions are ongoing.

There could be any number of reasons he hasn't signed yet. A strong possibility could be his agent holding him back with a view to assessing the best offer.

He could be returning to Scotland to pack his bags and be saying bye to his family etc. Who knows?
.
Whatever it is, doesn't mean to say we haven't done our best.

Even if we do miss out, the business we've done to date, suggests we've been on the ball and been very shrewd.

We've made what appear to be some very useful signings. It does though seem very odd that the most obvious gap in the squad that we had to fill at left back is still not closed out and we have one game left before the season starts. If Maxwell was the plan all along, then we needed to reach a decision on him much sooner, and if he wasn't the plan and we are still making up our mind, then that's a bit of a ball dropped to be honest. We took the decision to release Horton and John, so we knew we needed a left back but it's now virtually the end of pre-season and we haven't got one signed.

Well I would rather wait and get the right one than just any one.
If Maxwell doesn’t sign then that doesn’t mean the club haven’t pushed the boat out to try to get him to.
TR can play LB until we find someone else.
Anyway we know nothing. Maxwell could be our player tomorrow for all we know.
GM did say he would be sorting out which trialists we would be making offers to after tonight’s match.
Let’s just wait and see.
What will be is what will be.
The ones we have brought in so far look very good.

Read all that, DBR, but we’ve only trialled 1 LB! 1.5 weeks to go!

We've trialled two, Alan, and it doesn't mean we haven't been trying to sign a left back from another club either. These things can take time.

Sounds like Maxwell will now either be offered and take a deal, or he will choose to go elsewhere. A week ago nobody on this forum had heard of him so it is hardly "unforgiveable" if we don't sign him. I'd like it if he did sign, he impressed me at Spennymoor, but I am confident we will sign a left back before the Bradford game whether it is Maxwell or not.

Unforgivable.?

Get a grip.  Surely you don’t think we can force the lad to sign.?

Assuming the club is doing all it can in the process to get this or any other player, what’s unforgivable about that.

Is your choice of language to express your opinion and frustrations unforgivable.?

Bet every full back from a top academy is a converted winger at this stage
