Kyle Knole interview

Well worth a listen he gives a good insight into how things have changed. Mentions there's a good feeling in the squad unlike last year. Very positive interview.

“We really didn’t have a direction last year”
Well we were in a building season and it didn’t work. This season there should be only one direction that is getting out of league 2.

Yes, H, it’s worth remembering there are 2 ways to exit league 2. One of them being unpalatable.

Alan, while your entitled to be lees optimistic than myself and others on the forum, I do find it very strange that you don’t seem to see much positivity about the coming season. There is always a negative slant to your posts as the one I am replying to.

Yes i know last season was horrible, depressing and demoralising, but it’s gone.

There has been a huge overhaul to both the back room staff including having a director of football for the 1st time and that man is a Rovers legend who knows the club better than anyone.
Yes he will be probably the longest serving member of staff barring possibly Suzanne in the box office & that includes the board and CEO.

We have brought in 4 good quality players for this level, 3 of which are ours who I believe would all be capable of stepping up to League 1 and being very good at that level also.
No I haven’t seen much of any of them, and no they haven’t kicked a ball for us yet in a competitive game, but the glimpse I have seen would suggest they are all players who will only improve and will have a major impact this season.
GM has cleared out those who didn’t want to be here, and those he considered surplus to requirements.

Fairly sure there will be a couple more to come through the door before we get under way on 30th July.

All the talk is of an immediate bounce back to League 1 and that is the focus. No talk of consolidation or re building this season. Full steam ahead for top 3. Less than that would be underachieving the target set, and less than the playoffs would be considered abject failure.

So Alan forget last season, it’s consigned to the history books.
Let’s get behind this management team and the players and help them get that promotion we all desperately want this season.

The current manager and HoF were both at the club last season. Interviews like this are just meaningless in my opinion. They just try and distance themselves from last years shambles.

I know for a fact things have improved and preparation will be better this season but we have a long way to go from the diabolical outfit we were last year to even get to being a semi functioning football club. I’ll probably do a detailed post about what I think our prospect are in a couple of weeks. I’ve held back a little bit on my opinions this pre season but I will ne summing them up in a rant at some point!

Well I’m all a tremble waiting for that diamond of analysis!

I note the ‘probably’ & the ‘in a couple of weeks’.

Is that you keeping your powder dry just in case we hit the ground running?

Nothing like hedging your bets eh.

Agreed Alan, being realistic personally I will be a little more optimistic when we address the defence.

It will be prior to the season if I have time. Very busy period for me in the run up to the season. Hoping to get in to Cantley Park at some point soon to see what’s happening and how they are working so I though holding off till I have even more info to forge an opinion may be optimal. Is that ok with you?

I for one would look forward to that Gaz so fingers crossed you get the time and opportunity.

Personally, I’d like to see the following before I start to think we’re putting clear water between this season and last:

A decent signing at left back
Very positive news on Anderson or a decent replacement
Ditto Close

Regarding the second paragraph, Camps, it's not entirely gone. We still have the same diabolical defence.

A bit of proper organisation and that defence should be decent enough in this league. We will though need to score at least 75 goals this season to have a chance of top 3 imo.

The big concern is Anderson. We need him fully fit. I worry about Williams. Anderson and Olowu at centre back for me. Knoyle RB and a new left back who can defend primarily and also decent offensively.

If Anderson isn’t going to be 100% then we need someone with experience in there.
I think Faulkner would be very capable but a 18yr of and 22yr old at centre back is a risk. Ok for a few games but not over a long period of the season.
Williams I don’t trust. His heading is awful and his positional sense leaves a lot to be desired. He loses his man too easily. Can’t defend set pieces. Younger I think the jury is out. Lacks a little height but think he has potential to do ok in League 2
Knoyle. We need to see the Knoyle that was at Cambridge 2 seasons ago. I think we will this season.

We just need organising much much better at the back. Some leadership on the field will be key.
No Anderson & GM and Copps will need to find someone. It won’t be easy. Everyone wants a leader at centre back.
