I remember when we played them at home in the mid 80's when they were promoted and literally took over Belle Vue. I think Rovers made it an all ticket game about 24 hours before kick off or something equally as insane. Donny town centre was a complete mad house after the game as Boro took over almost every pub that was open. To be fair, most of them were ok but there was still a lot of trouble.

It was at the end of the 1986-87 season.

The whole match is on YouTube here should you wish to relive it.

I was at that game - didn’t they hammer us 4-0? Their supporters filled the pop side.

Is it the same season they played some of their home games at Hartlepool as they were locked out of Ayresome Park, what a dump that was but good atmosphere..why do I remember the away fans at the Asda end of the mail stand. Was the away end being changed at the time?

Strange people then. At least support someone decent if you're not gonna support your home town team. Unless family from there originally I guess.

I thought it was 2-0? I was expecting us to get hammered but thought we done good to keep it at only 2-0,but I might be wrong, memory can play tricks.

Be nice to see Seny Dieng again & remind ourselves of the need for a good goalkeeper, if we haven’t got one by then.

Had a ticket for this game at the time … made it as far as town centre and then gave it away to some random guy in the pub as i thought at best it would be heavy defeat and just about get away without a head kicking. Might have been the only home game I missed that season too.
