League 1
« on August 13, 2022, 11:21:28 am by Bessie Red »
I have been looking at League 1 table and thought we should realistically be in there. Not saying we have a right to be there but surely with our history, fan base, stadium (increased revenue) we should be as high or higher than the following teams:
Accrington, Fleetwood, Forest Green, Morcambe, Burton, Exeter, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Wycombe.

One thing all those teams have in common with us - we have all been in the Conference and risen up from there. As you say, they like us, earned the right to be there and we will need to do so again. I am confident we will do so at some stage, and the season we do will be enjoyable  :scarf:

We are where we are and should be humble enough to accept it. No club has a divine right to be anywhere.

Respect to all those clubs who have had mixed fortunes and risen again, just as we did. Our time will come again when all the ingredients come together on the pitch.

There are some bigger clubs in more turmoil than these well run community clubs and we should celebrate their rise up the pyramid as that what makes the glorious game what it is despite the greed  and corruption of a few who don't care who they tread on.

We should have been beaten by the mighty Sutton last week .
We are where we are because we haven't been good enough  for a long time now.

If the Doncaster public didn’t have such apathy for its sports teams (and I include all of them in that!) then we should be competing regularly at the top end of that league and have a punches  chance in the league above.

Unfortunately they all mostly support other clubs so it will never consistently take place.

As John Ryan said at the event at the earl all those years ago, “Doncaster could easily sustain a quality division one side” (now the championship). He’s right, but no one’s interested.

That's the problem too many on here have just accepted last year. The people at the top are to blame for us being in this league.

What did I say about being humble and accepting it?

It's hard to move on unless you drop the bitterness.  What's your alternative?

Judging by that post you haven’t just accepted last year (I’m assuming you’re not including yourself).

So, tell us, apart from moaning on here what have you done?

Im not looking to demean any of those clubs mentioned and they deserve to be where they are. My point was that realistically we should be at the same level if not higher based on the metrics I mentioned, nothing like a Wednesday fan with the Prem, they just believe they are better than everyone else and have a devine right to be there.

i'm going to work out what our all-time average league position is - I suspect it'll be lower half of the third tier (pro-rated to reflect what percentile we finished, for instance, when we came 7th of 18 in the second division in 1901/02 - that'd equate to 64th out of a full compliment of 92 league teams, or 20th in league one); I think over the last two decades we have been punching well above our weight, certainly when in the championship, which makes ll the angst at being where we statistically 'should' be all the more annoying; as i've always said, hoping for your team to over-achieve is what football is all about, expecting it is just self-delusion...

Football is about the here and now, just like when we were in the championship. The table doesn't lie. Neither does the league pyramid. Irrelevant what we might feel is our level. We're a League Two club and those teams above us deserve to be there.

Are you talking about life in general ?

I'd have moaned more often last year but.... I'll stop there
