Kick off times
« on August 11, 2022, 01:06:52 pm by glosterred »
With the forthcoming rises in electricity prices this autumn and winter, I wonder if the EFL & FA have given any thought to moving kick off time for games where floodlights are needed? The leccy bill for running the floodlights must be quite substantial and may become prohibitive for some smaller and non league clubs managing on shoestring budgets? Would there be much objections for Saturday kick offs being say 12 midday? Not to sure how early you could move midweek games to, and I’m not sure if a mid afternoon kick off being acceptable to many.

There will be a few on this forum that remember the “winter of discontent” in the 70’s and kick off times being changed. I remember the Liverpool V Rovers replay kicking off mid afternoon and schools being less well attended that day!

When Rovers floodlights were really bad in the late 50s early 60s we had quite a few Saturday matches kicking off at 2:15 to minimise the impact of the failing lights.

It's already been proposed further down the pyramid:

That’s a good start Vaya, would now like to see this to start to percolate up the pyramid to elevate costs on the smaller clubs

Good idea, though I don't think it would need to be as early as noon, there is still away travel to consider. 2pm or 1.30 if need be through the shortest days should help.

Not too early for BB and Wolfie, so they'd plenty of time to get there in their horse and carts.

Another one for the footballing authorities to mull over is the kick off times in August. The temperature in London this Saturday will be 37 degrees. The hottest part of a sunny day is between 3pm and 5pm. With the trending temperature increases the kick  off times during August and September may need moving to lunch time kick offs or evening kick offs. These temperatures are scary for players and supporters enduring the sun the duration of a football match.

Last time it was that hot when we played in London we got a great away victory at Leyton Orient, hopefully same again!

I remember it all to well. As soon as re arose from the deep level tube at KGX the first port of call was to purchase a tin of Lynx Africa out of the kitty to share around our groups sweaty armpits before heading to the Scotsman....... You know the rest lol!

It's been awful today how hot it is. Even hotter in London. Reckon there will be a few water breaks.
