Preston & Whiteman

Still not conceded a goal. Whiteman playing the quarterback role to perfection.

Genuinely think he could go for big, big money and we'll get a slice of that.

I hope so. He’s got two years left on his deal as well so he will go for a fee. Would be nightmare for us if he walked in two years mind to a Premier League side.

Be just our luck.

I'm pretty sure Sheff united had a 25% sell on fee to us - so we would be pretty stupid not to go for the same percentage sell on ..

I've heard both 20 & 25 both mentioned. Either would suffice for me.

I said when he left thatl in absolute terms he's the best midfielder we've ever had.

Better than Snodin, Redfearn, Stock and Wellens, although of course not as good as at least the first two were relative to the standards of their time.

He was amazing for us, it's no coincidence that the 18 months of horror for us immediately followed his leaving. He was irreplaceable at our level.

Our current midfield are making me purr now, not quite the box to box legs of Whiteman, but the first real quality we've had to control and compete in games since.

You would expect Preston to sell him when under contract rather than let him go for nowt.. effects them more than it does us.

It’s not really their call though. Players know their own worth and moving on their own terms has significant financial benefits for them personally. Saying that, two years is a long time for Whiteman to wait given his age. He could I guess also agree a new deal with them on improved terms even if like with us that is only on basis of ensuring his club gets a pay out for his inevitable move. He’s that bit older and better now, which I am sure he is more than aware of.

I agree with your comment re player power, but I think we saw from Ben's exit from us that he would probably try to leave whilst his parent club would still benefit from his move, he seems to have some moral compass unlike most players these days!

I said it last season and it still stands. He the best player in his position in the Championship. Seri, Norwood, Barlaser, etc are all up there but he’s the best. £20m player. His next move will be for around £10m though.

I hope he gets his chance in the Prem. It's unlikely a top end Prem club will come in for him, given the preference for non English ready made players.

His best chance maybe via promotion with Preston or another top end Championship club....like the Blades for example!!

He's quality.

Preston's start is absolutely bending my mind though. 11 points from 7 games, scored 2, conceded 0.

Would be a good buy for someone like Bournemouth, Fulham or Brentford!

Only a matter of time before him and Dieng are playing in the Prem surely.
