I said that our earlier positive results this season happened INSPITE of McSheffrey and I was abused!

The writing has been on the wall since the board allowed an inexperienced manager to facilitate our relegation. What was it he said, "If it happens, it happens". Inspiring words!

The chickens are coming home to roost now.

Well, we've had generally poor performances when we've won / drawn and really poor performances when we've lost. The common denominator is poor performances. Many players have come and gone since GM took over temporarily in November and i am still fumbling around to remember a performance worthy of gushing praise and i go to every home game (apart from Stockport when i got flooded out and couldn't get up to Donny).

I will still be waiting come 5pm on saturday because the reaction that McSheffrey is supposed to get from the players after such an abject couple of games won't ever materialize. I can guarantee that instead of going for Swindon from the off, they'll dominate possession, create lots of chances, have lots of crosses into our area and most likely score within 30 minutes. Nailed on.

The man's demeanour is dour.

I fear you may be correct, I was slow to appreciate how bad we were last season , until I went to Crewe game.
The same may be happening again this season. If you sit back and think how many games we actually deserved to win this season , it is worrying.
I hope I am over reacting , the next couple of games should gives us an idea. Need to win them both IMO.

The good thing this year is there is really no excuse. Last year there was a lot to hide behind thats the only reason a change wasn't made post relegation.

Signed a lot of players, especially if you count last Jan, so the squad is GM's and on the face of it we do have good players to at the very least be able to compete in terms of performance with the likes of Barrow, Mansfield etc

Back to “Anyone really surprised” To be very simple, the gap between the defence and the midfield is too big.

Defensively we've had issues with injuries, but we've conceded 14 goals in 9 games in total this season and only Newport and Crawley have let in more at home than us in League 2.

Our defence, by and large is still crap and this puts more pressure on us to score more goals obviously. Mitchell too has saved us from conceding a lot more (which is his job granted) but overall i feel our defensive frailty is a continual issue and without a glut of goals from midfield and a seasoned 20 goal striker, we are always going to struggle this season unless leaks are plugged more often than not.

We haven’t scored a goal in open play for 400 minutes.

Now almost 500 minutes.

Going back to been surprised about how were performing and i think If you asked me at the end of preseason i would be surprised because the summer always gets you excited and thinking glass half full. We made good signings and the players did look fitter.

But if you said to me at the end of last season 10 games in (counting cups) we would be playing with no clue i'd of said well of course that much was always obvious. Sure i said on here it was such a huge risk to keep GM after been woeful last year because a bad start would kill him straight away.

We're seeing that because point wise it's not that bad (starting to get worse though) but performance wise it's awful. No one will have any patience with him after last season so just get it over with now for all our sakes

The three most successful managers in the last 40 years were all headhunted - Bremner, Penney and SOD.
Time to throw away the application forms and the matrix?

Thats a nonsense. Its not 3 its 2. By that token we've had 2 good managers in 40 years, which means we've had a shit load of bad ones. Doesnt back your argumnent up does it!

Totally agree. Plus the fact that Bremner never got us promoted to the 2nd tier, but Saunders and Flynn did.
