If Tomlin was Number 23 on saturday then his touch and passing looks a cut above anyone else on the pitch. As someone else already said surely he's got to be worth a punt over another rubbish loan who adds nothing. See highlights here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGx5Zsy1UVQ

We haven’t seen Molyneux or Biggins play yet. Josh Martin wouldn’t be a rubbish loan.

If he's good enough he's young enough.

With the new 5 subs rule, having someone with Tomlin's ability on the ball to bring on for the last 20-30 minutes to either keep hold of the ball or add some creativity depending on the situation, could prove to be a good option to have. Assuming he's fit and committed.

With Close still being unavailable for a bit longer, 4 weeks or so, then this might open the door a bit wider for Tomlin.

TBF, he may need the door to be a bit wider..... Wouldn't be my pick - he has undoubted skill and ability, but has some timber on him and and there are also fitness issues...

If he gets himself in good condition, then he is worth a years contract. It all depends on wages and what he wants. At the minute he would be a bit part player, but could easily turn into a key player if he trims down and is at one hundred per cent.

Agreed. I had the same doubts about Clayton last year and after his first couple of games was thinking we'd made a massive mistake - now I think he could well be our key man next year. Tomlin being similar I think - ability and creativity is what we really missed.
Close has a long way to go to prove himself for me, was less than impressed when he managed to play, and a long time out means for me he should be all guns blazing to pay back what has been a hugely disappointing start to his time here.

I see where you're coming from but I'd have to agree with MM. Seems a bit of an odd one. Not sure if I'm getting him and Paul Taylor mixed up but didn't he have some "issues" a while back?

Tomlin wasn’t fit when he was 23 never mind at 33. Horrific signing if it comes off.

Retired in October. What a brainless signing.

He might not have been fit but he was still our best player.

It is odd that he did not mention his retirement in his “golf” post on Twitter.

Is it possible that such an overwhelming (over)reaction to that may have driven him into retirement?

He might not have been fit but he was still our best player.

Makes you wonder what the club were playing at then, signing someone to be our best player who has been playing through chronic pain for the past 3 years and who they surely knew was a massive gamble of a signing from the outset.

If he had been fit he would have been playing for someone far better than us! As it turned out the short time he had with us proved to be very useful because he was mostly not only our best player but the best player on the pitch when he appeared.

I wonder if he's got any intentions of becoming a Manager.

He was a gamble we could afford.
It’s not worked out unfortunately.
But he could afford to walk away and he’s done it.

We need good players who can play well for us all season, not for 10 games.

At least he's off the pay roll.

We've got at least three others who are 'semi-retired' and very much on the pay roll.

Maybe it was a reciprocal agreement in his contract that he would continue playing, and see how much of the season he could participate in before either side agreed it was time for him to call it a day. Tomlin, the board, the management team (and us) saw enough of him to decide that the gamble was worth taking and offered him a contract. The fine print within it we'll never know. He could have lasted a full season, or half a season, in the end we got a quarter. That's footy for ya'. I enjoyed watching him for the time he gave us.
Enjoy your retirement Lee, maybe stay with us for a while 'ey!!

Agree with this. Jon Taylor ought to be watching, managing one poor game then another month or so out. Could do so much more with his wages.

Absolutely, BB; and the points he helped us gain could be very useful at the end of the season, one way or another.

Sorry it didn't work out for him, but every cloud has a silver lining.

This does mean that SCWK can have an early delve into the free agent market and find someone to spend the cash on.

Over to you Sammy, don't let me down.

There is some 33 year old in the Israeli second division sweating tonight in the hope Sammy suggests he is worth a punt.

Going back to that incident at Bradford then, I wonder whether his reaction to the stamp on his foot was a genuine one if the stamp landed on his injury.
Unless he tells us though I guess we will never know.

For me we are really missing him. Our midfield has been non existent since he retired.

Problem with that train of thought is that it wasn’t a stamp..
