Style of play
« on October 21, 2022, 12:15:14 pm by Barmby Rover »
Discussing his preferred brand of football, Schofield said: “I want us to play with a high intensity. We need to get to that level where the physical levels of the players can compete.

"I’m a coach who wants to dominate possession of the ball, but to progress, to attack, not just keep the ball and circulate.”

Good luck to him with this one, the only manager I saw get close to this was SOD, but he had more resources, and a much better squad. I think every manager we have had since has had this sort of message, all of which faded away in a desperate search for points. Let's hope he does it!

I must admit not a lot of our players scream high intensity... He'll soon weed that out.

I think McSheffrey did a good job at getting them fit. That was evident in the first game playing 10 men for 45 mins and the subsequent games scoring late goals.

Tommy Rowe and maybe Knoyle are the only ones that play with press or intensity

I thought that there was an improvement to the passing game at Carlisle until we imploded after conceding the first goal.

Barmby, to save you time getting to the point, how about we conclude that the style of play will be shit, we’ll be a team of cloggers ploughing through the mud in the pouring rain, this will help us implement the board’s plan of ground sharing with the Knights at Castle Park before they wind the club up and we all get wiped out by a meteorite blasting us into oblivion.

Keep smiling and keep on with the joyous support you offer.

Sounds like he has a similar philosophy to McCann. Intensity and possession but with purpose, not just passing the ball about aimlessly or hoofing it forward.

We've got the players to do it, it's just a matter of coaching.

Sounds good. Think we need more legs in midfield for this. Clayton is a bit of a drag on the mobility of the whole team. But really how many teams play out a lot from the back in L2? We won't need to be chasing down all over the place like Liverpool in this division.

Leyton Orient tried to play it from the back.

Wellens wants to be the next SOD.
The problem is he has a league 2 team not a championship one or even one remotely near the top of League 1

To get out of League 2 you need some physicality in the team and you need to have a team of battlers.
If you have got good footballers as part of that team also then hey presto you have got a remedy for success.
What we need to do is find the former 2 attributes. I think DS will get that out them eventually, just give him time.  In the 1st 6 games we did show a a spirited attitude when behind, came back to win. That confidence has been drained and now DS has got to build that self belief again.
We do have some good footballers for this level.

Forest Green were a slick side and they went up last season. Have good players, play good football and you will win games.

They had a very good spine. They could mix it up when needed. Had that physicality which you need.

I don’t mean you need a team of cloggers just a team that could get stuck in. Win the ball back when they lose it
That is what is missing from this team up to press.

Wasn't SOD more about Possesion and less about domination? More a Pep-ite than a Klopp-ite?

Greeny in midfield was all running. Pricey and MM as wide forwards were very physical and centre halves could mix it up. Add in Wellens and Stock who despite being top notch were no pushovers... then Billy who was the cherry on top for effort.

I am not bothered one iota how we play, if the ball hits someone on the backside, bounces  off three or four others but ends up in Crewe's onion bag more times than our own I will be happy.

I want us to win but I also want us to look like we have a clue what we are doing, with your analogy we may as well have stuck with McSheffrey
