How bad is this league
« on January 02, 2023, 05:31:51 pm by phil old leake »
I can only go on what I read on this forum.  It would appear that as a general rule the team have beeb awful and dire to watch

That said we are 1 point off the play offs

If we are that bad how bad must the teams below us be and the ones immediately above if we are still realistically in with a chance of the play offs

We are still realistically in with a chance of the automatic places. Unlikely but not impossible.

It will be difficult now that Northampton won today. We are 9 points adrift. Effectively 10 points due to the goal difference.

I will very happily take a trip to Wembley to get promoted. Think that’s what we realistically are aiming for.

One game at a time, long way to go. Lots of twists and turns to come.
We are more than capable though of finishing in the top 7. This is a pretty poor league. Way below League 1 imo.

For me, it’s about how progressive we are in this window. Dilly dally and end up with no-one who can impact the team and the season will fade away.
We should also be mindful that there are 2 or 3 teams with games in hand who can make it more awkward, if results go their way!

Quality needed in 1 or 2 places.

This was a conversation we were having on the way home yesterday for the exact reasons already stated. I've not been to any away games and missed several home games but from what I've seen, it's a poor league.

The Stevenage game is a stand out for me, I think it was Schofield's first game (?) and we were comfortably the better team against them and lost to a classic Steve Evans smash and grab. We beat Northampton away, we've beaten Carlisle, maybe should have beaten Bradford with ten men on the pitch.

I think as long as the performance yesterday wasn't a one off and we put some consistency together and strengthen a bit, then the play offs are realistic.

It falls to Copps and the Board now to try and get the targets we need to support DS and build on this bit of momentum we've got and bounce back decisively.

Stevenage was DS’s 2nd game. Crewe away 1-1 was his 1st CJK.

Amazing the difference one match makes.

I really hope we do get more consistent, however play offs would be a push from what I've seen over 24 matches.

Could go either way as we're a side that has potential to be good but we make so many mistakes we have the potential to be bad.

I think confidence is a lot of it and if we can get on a run we could really kick on.

Worth noting where we are having changed the manager and had consistent injuries all season.  Andrews and Tomlin were brought in to big players and we haven't had them. They need to be replaced (and I'd like a central midfielder too).  Not to mention younger and oluwu have barely kicked a ball.

We haven’t scored as many as we should have so far but we have Miller in the top goalscorer charts, plus Miller(4) and Knoyle(5) in the most assists one. Our top chance makers a striker and full back, another sign that our midfield hasn’t been doing its job.

This league is awful, with ththe exception of a few teams.
I can't believe Carlisle are where they are in the league. I know,we played well yesterday, but even in possession they were shocking. Even dead ball situations went either straight out of play, straight to a Rovers player, or straight into Mitchell's gloves.
They had nothing up front, they were defensively terrible and we ran midfield

It’s crap! The best two teams are Leyton Orient and Northampton and we picked up 4 points agains then. The other team up there Stevenage are just streetwise due to their anti football manager.

This is the time where we see what the board are really made of! We are in a position now where if we really want to push for promotion then we are capable of doing so with 2/3 good additions at this level. If this month just passes us by with no real signings of intent then we will all know that the board ain’t that interested in us being successful on the pitch.

Not a good league which is why there’s so much frustration even though we’re in a decent position.

If we can start winning games more comfortably (2-0 or 3-0 instead of 2-1 or 4-3!) more often I’d be confident of getting playoffs but everything feels a bit last ditch too often.

Couldn't give a damn how many we score or concede so long as we win.

As poor as this league is, you would expect our club to be able to build a squad to be winning the title. Unfortunately so far we are nowhere near. It’s very frustrating , the teams up there deserve to be in those positions.

Well obviously. But that’s not what I’m saying. If you were to forecast where we are to finish you’d be more confident saying playoffs if we were winning well.

If it’s always a struggle then you’d feel that eventually luck will turn and we’ll lose a few. That’s how I feel at the moment. GM had a quite a few win without deserving it games at the start of the season. How’d that work out for him
